Happy New Year

Research and studies, like the National Study of Youth and Religion, consistently point to the fact that Parents are the single biggest faith shaper in the students' lives. And that influence does not start in the teenage years; it begins at the beginning, from age 0 to 4, when kids are already forming values, a set of beliefs, and principles to live life by. But there is an essential shift in their tween and teen years, when students start to wrestle with the meaning of life and ask questions. This time is critical for students to know what is real, what is meaningful, and how important faith is.

That is why this 2026 year, I want to encourage you as a parent to make your spiritual life a priority, because as a parent, equipping your child to be ready for the real world, you need to model a healthy, strong, and yet critical thinking faith, that would make your child thrive.

Please keep praying for us, for all the leaders that are leading small groups at 4:12, and for God’s guidance as we partner with you in equipping our youth for a life of faith and purpose.

P.S. Use the Parent Resource provided below to be intentional about your 2026 family goals, intentions, and growth, because a family that knows where it is going is a family that has purpose.

4:12 Sermon Series

What better way to start the year at 4:12 than diving deeper into the life of Joseph from the Bible? Joseph is an iconic figure who models a faithful life to God despite the curveballs that life might throw our way.

Week 1: Faith in the Pit

Scripture: Genesis 37 (Joseph’s dreams and jealousy from his brothers)

Theme: God’s dreams might be different than your own, but His plans are what you were made for. Feeling overlooked, bullied, or misunderstood? Maybe letting pride get in the way? Still, God can turn tragedy into purpose.

Parent Discussion Questions:

1.     Have you ever felt overlooked, misunderstood, or treated unfairly—at school, online, or even at home? What did that feel like for you?”

2.     Joseph’s dreams came from God, but his pride and his brothers’ jealousy caused problems. Where do you think pride or comparison shows up most in your life today?

3.     If God has a purpose for you that you don’t fully understand yet, what would it look like to trust Him anyway this week?

Week 2: Resisting Temptation

Scripture: Genesis 39 (Joseph resists temptation at Potiphar's house)

Theme: When life feels unfair or you’re treated wrongly, God’s presence never leaves you.

Parent Discussion Questions:

1.     What kinds of temptations feel hardest for students your age today—especially the ones that adults don't see or think about?

2.     Joseph chose obedience even when it cost him. Why do you think doing the right thing can sometimes make life feel harder instead of easier?

3.     What are some practical ways we can honor God when we feel pressure—whether from friends, feelings, or culture?

Week 3: Trusting in God when life seems unfair

Scripture: Genesis 40 (The Cupbearer and the Baker)

Takeaway: Even when life feels unfair, slow, or stuck, God is still at work. Your faithfulness in the waiting seasons prepares you for the opportunities He has ahead.

Parent Discussion Questions:

1.     “Have you ever done the right thing and still felt forgotten or stuck, like Joseph in prison?”

2.     “Why do waiting seasons feel so frustrating—especially when you don’t know how long they’ll last?”

3.     How do you think God might use waiting seasons to prepare you for something bigger later on?

Week 4: Forgiveness Over Revenge

Scripture: Genesis 42 (Joseph reveals himself to his brothers)

Takeaway: When someone hurts you, the natural response is anger, but God calls us to forgiveness and grace. Forgiveness frees you and allows God’s plan to unfold.

Parent Discussion Questions:

1.     When someone hurts you deeply, what feels easier: forgiveness or seeking revenge? Why do you think that is?

2.     Joseph had the power to punish his brothers, but chose forgiveness. What do you think forgiveness gave Joseph that revenge never could?

3.     How does remembering how much we’ve been forgiven by God change the way we respond to people who hurt us?
