What better way to start the year at 4:12 than diving deeper into the life of Joseph from the Bible? Joseph is an iconic figure who models a faithful life to God despite the curveballs that life might throw our way.
Week 1: Faith in the Pit
Scripture: Genesis 37 (Joseph’s dreams and jealousy from his brothers)
Theme: God’s dreams might be different than your own, but His plans are what you were made for. Feeling overlooked, bullied, or misunderstood? Maybe letting pride get in the way? Still, God can turn tragedy into purpose.
Parent Discussion Questions:
1. Have you ever felt overlooked, misunderstood, or treated unfairly—at school, online, or even at home? What did that feel like for you?”
2. Joseph’s dreams came from God, but his pride and his brothers’ jealousy caused problems. Where do you think pride or comparison shows up most in your life today?
3. If God has a purpose for you that you don’t fully understand yet, what would it look like to trust Him anyway this week?
Week 2: Resisting Temptation
Scripture: Genesis 39 (Joseph resists temptation at Potiphar's house)
Theme: When life feels unfair or you’re treated wrongly, God’s presence never leaves you.
Parent Discussion Questions:
1. What kinds of temptations feel hardest for students your age today—especially the ones that adults don't see or think about?
2. Joseph chose obedience even when it cost him. Why do you think doing the right thing can sometimes make life feel harder instead of easier?
3. What are some practical ways we can honor God when we feel pressure—whether from friends, feelings, or culture?
Week 3: Trusting in God when life seems unfair
Scripture: Genesis 40 (The Cupbearer and the Baker)
Takeaway: Even when life feels unfair, slow, or stuck, God is still at work. Your faithfulness in the waiting seasons prepares you for the opportunities He has ahead.
Parent Discussion Questions:
1. “Have you ever done the right thing and still felt forgotten or stuck, like Joseph in prison?”
2. “Why do waiting seasons feel so frustrating—especially when you don’t know how long they’ll last?”
3. How do you think God might use waiting seasons to prepare you for something bigger later on?
Week 4: Forgiveness Over Revenge
Scripture: Genesis 42 (Joseph reveals himself to his brothers)
Takeaway: When someone hurts you, the natural response is anger, but God calls us to forgiveness and grace. Forgiveness frees you and allows God’s plan to unfold.
Parent Discussion Questions:
1. When someone hurts you deeply, what feels easier: forgiveness or seeking revenge? Why do you think that is?
2. Joseph had the power to punish his brothers, but chose forgiveness. What do you think forgiveness gave Joseph that revenge never could?
3. How does remembering how much we’ve been forgiven by God change the way we respond to people who hurt us?
