4:12 Teaching Series

We have just embarked on a new journey together, a teaching series for the youth group, titled Life in Community. This series emphasizes the transformative power of community and the significance of unity within the church.

Series Overview

Life in Community is a four-week exploration into the essence of community life:

  • Session 1: The Power of Community Transforms Us
  •  Big Idea: Jesus transforms people, and He often uses community to inspire and ignite life-change.
  •  Question for Discussion: Can you share a time when being part of a community led to a positive change in your life?
  • Session 2: Deep Friendships Build Strong Communities
  •  Big Idea: In the Christian community, godly friendships go deep.
  • Question for Discussion: Why do you think deep friendships are crucial for a thriving community?
  •  Session 3: Handling Conflict in Community
  • Big Idea: Conflict is inevitable, but growth is optional. Our community will be stronger when we are willing to grow through and resolve conflict.
  • Question for Discussion: How can we approach conflicts in a way that strengthens our bonds rather than breaking them?
  •  Session 4: Comm-UNITY: Authentic Community Requires Unity
  •  Big Idea: We’re better together! A strong community requires unity.
  • Question for Discussion: What are some ways we can foster unity within our community?

This series is an excellent opportunity for our students to understand the importance of community, especially as we have just started a new school year. I encourage you to engage with your student about these topics each week using the discussion questions provided. Together, we can foster a sense of belonging and unity.

Questions to ask in the car or around the table

  • What do you think Jesus’ primary mission was?
  • How has Jesus modeled what it looks like to be part of a community?
  •  Who is someone in your life that may need more community?

United Invite

United Invite is coming up!

On Wednesday, Sept. 24 at NewBo City Market (Cedar Rapids), students from across the Cedar Rapids Metro Area will gather for a free evening of worship, community, and encouragement. No registration is needed—just come!

Because of this special event, 4:12 Students will not meet as usual that evening.

Adult leaders from our congregation will be present and engaged with students throughout the night. However, since this is a large community event (with 500+ students expected) and there will not be registration or formal check-ins, we want parents to be aware that we cannot provide the same level of supervision as on a regular 4:12 night.

If your student is younger or if you would feel more comfortable, we encourage parents to join them for the evening. It’s a great event for the whole family to experience together!

If you have any questions, please reach out to Brianna Baranowski (bbaranowski@marionmethodist.org).
