April Showers bring... our Earth Day Fair!
Did you hear thunder last night? I did, and what a welcome sound it was! We're all ready for winter to be over and for spring to really arrive.

One way to get into a spring mood is to attend our Earth Day Fair, coming soon on Saturday, April 23 at 10am to 1pm. More details are below.

I'm happy to see some of our cardholders using Kanopy, a new streaming video service offering quality films, series, documentaries, children's programming, and The Great Courses. If you would like to learn more about using Kanopy, consider attending our free class tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m.

Wishing everyone a warm and happy April!

Free class: Kanopy and other streaming services

Kanopy is a video streaming service that provides instant access to thousands of critically acclaimed movies, documentaries and kid favorites. If you're unsure about how to get started, attend a free class TOMORROW, Thursday, April 14th at 11:00 a.m.

I'll demonstrate how to set up your Kanopy account and use it to watch movies on your computer, mobile device, and streaming device. You can also bring your questions about other streaming services and devices, and we'll try to get to them after the Kanopy demo.

Anyone with a valid Mercer Public Library card can use Kanopy! Get started at mercerpubliclibrary.kanopy.com or visit our website for more information.
Earth Day Fair

We're excited for the return of our annual Earth Day Fair on Saturday, April 23rd from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event will feature speakers, booths from organizations and businesses throughout the northwoods, and hands-on activities for all ages.

April Hepokoski of Zero Waste Duluth will give a virtual presentation on zero waste living at 12:00 p.m. Fair attendees can watch the presentation live, and others can log in from anywhere using Zoom. Visit the library's website for a link to the Zoom meeting.

The 2022 Earth Day Fair will also offer free recycling for small electronics, metal, and alkaline batteries courtesy of Trig's Recycling in Minocqua. Small electronics include computers, flatscreen monitors and TVs, printers and other peripheral devices, small kitchen appliances, and more. Microwaves and CRT “tube” TVs will not be accepted.

Twelve organizations have registered to attend the fair, including Northwoods Farm Share, Woods & Blooms Garden Club, Discovery Center Bird Club, Northwoods Wildlife & Wetlands Club, ClearView Nursery, Extension Iron County, the Mercer Seed Library, Wolverine Nordic Trails, North Country Trail Heritage Chapter, Turtle-Flambeau Scenic Waters Area, and Iron County Land & Water Conservation. Exhibitors will be sharing information about their projects, selling products, and sponsoring activities.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided by the Mercer Leos. All attendees can register to win door prizes including a rain barrel (value $129) for adults, a selection of board games for kids, and more. The Mercer Library will sponsor crafts and activities for adults and children.

Exhibit spaces are still available. Businesses and organizations who would like to participate may register until April 21 by emailing the library director or calling the library at 715-476-2366.

Hope we'll see you there!
