Dear parents,

Yesterday, Governor Newsom supported the recommendation from the California Department of Education that schools across the state should remain closed for the rest of the academic year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This was based on current Covid-19 models and the state's strong support of social distancing. At this point, no direct order has been given, but in all likelihood VMS will continue with distance learning through June. We will make an announcement when the decision is finalized.

Although we are saddened by the news because we miss being with the children, we are well-prepared for the coming weeks. Our committed teachers, will continue with our curriculum in some new and exciting ways, ensuring the children have the tools, guidance and lessons to provide the very best distance learning program possible.

Next week is our scheduled Spring Break. We hope VMS students, families and staff will take this well deserved break to enjoy time with family. When we resume on April 13, it will be with renewed enthusiasm and resolve to make this unexpected school year a valuable educational experience.

We will continue to update the VMS Website to provide ideas, activities and resources to help as needed during the break as well as throughout the coming months.

Here is an incredible resource just published from Common Sense Media: " Curated and coordinated by the experts at Common Sense Media, Wide Open School is the result of a collaboration among leading publishers, nonprofits, and education and technology companies. Wide Open School features a free collection of the best learning experiences and activities for kids, organized by grade band and subject ." Enjoy!

Respectfully,
Ann
