Important Crossroads Academy Campus Notice

For the health and safety of Crossroads faculty and staff who are working hard to maintain our facilities and provide distance learning opportunities for our students, we ask that all students and parents do not come to campus without prior permission from the school’s administration. Should you require school materials, contact your teacher(s) and we will make arrangements for these materials to be picked up in a designated location. Thank you for your cooperation.
Head's Note

I hope you had a very good April break and enjoyed time with family and loved ones. While many of us are sad about the Governor’s announcement to close New Hampshire schools last week, we hope to virtually come together and make the remaining portion of the school year as positive and engaging as possible. Last week provided time to reflect on what we have learned about distance learning thus far and ways we hope to improve on the learning models established over the last month. As is often the case when embarking on something new, the more we learn, the more we realize we have room for growth. I addressed this topic in more detail in this week’s blog and as we all experience both successes and failures, we will strive to improve through self-evaluation and remaining nimble. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to learn along with your children and for supporting their experiences at home. And please know we are here if you have questions or if we can help in any way.

Yours truly, Brad
COVID-19 Update
The New Hampshire Stay at Home Order and Distance Learning for Schools is in effect through the remainder of this school year.

We are flattening of the curve in New Hampshire, and we may begin to hear about plans to reopen some businesses. With the ongoing presence of COVID-19 in the community, and with the risk of symptomatic and pre-symptomatic transmission, it is essential that we continue to practice COVID-19 prevention measures.

Secondary Schools Zoom Meeting TOMORROW

Planning for Independent Secondary School Application Process:  Grade 7 Parents are invited to a Zoom meeting on the application process for Independent Secondary Schools. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 21 at 7:00 pm via Zoom. An invite will be sent out.
Haven Donations

Thank you to everyone in the community for your donations for The Haven. This organization really relies on people making donations and your generosity is very much appreciated. Also, kudos to Kathy Barth for making this delivery!
Summer Programs

Dear Crossroads Families,

Though none of us know when the Crossroads campus and other summer programs will be open again for students, we continue to plan for another great summer session at our school! Please click here to learn more about the wonderful range of summer options available to students aged 3-13 throughout the Upper Valley. The programs run from 9:00 am-3:30 pm daily. We also offer an early drop off beginning at 8:00 am and free aftercare from 3:30-5:00 pm.

Though we hope that all of our programs will run, should they be canceled for any reason, we will offer a full refund of tuition. Summer will be here before we know it so please consider enrolling your children for these engaging and enriching summer experiences. Also, most of our families hear about Crossroads through word of mouth so feel free to share this information with others in our extended community who may enjoy this Crossroads experience.

Thank you and take care,

Summer Program Director
Dear Crossroads Community:

I am pleased to announce that Jamie Marsha, our current 3rd Grade Assistant Teacher, has agreed to assume additional responsibilities as the school’s Title IX Coordinator and Section 504 Coordinator. We do not anticipate that these new responsibilities will interfere in any way with her primary role as an educator in the 3rd grade classroom.

As the school’s Title IX and 504 Coordinator, Jamie will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of the school's Title IX compliance efforts to foster an environment that is free from sexual discrimination and harassment. She will also ensure compliance in Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, a law that protects the rights of people with disabilities or handicaps.

Jamie will work closely and collaboratively with myself, the Board, and other colleagues across the school to ensure compliance and consistency in instances of sexual misconduct and discrimination. She will also work diligently to keep the entire Crossroads' community informed about Title IX and 504 requirements.

Lower School Updates
Welcome back! It can be difficult to return to routines and academic expectations after a break. Perhaps a quick review of our Distance Learning Pledge would be helpful to your children.

Make a Difference on Earth Day 2020
Let’s get 100 percent participation as we make a difference for our planet on Wednesday, April 22 . Take one photo of your child/children/family engaged in a positive community action: recycle, reuse, clean the outdoors, consider food waste, or write a message of hope for the environment.

Send your photo(s) to Erin Drury and we will create a slideshow to highlight our efforts!

Thank you for joining this collaborative project.
Middle School Updates
Making a Difference: Character Ed teachers will be talking to the Middle School students in Homeroom on Monday. Students will be asked to pick a project/activity to help make a difference to our community this week. Students will share what they did by sending in a photo or two of their service.

Live Session Schedule: Please see the Live (Zoom) Session Schedule for April 20-24. This schedule will basically remain the same each week (although there may be slight tweaks which will be highlighted).

Secondary School Application Process: Grade 7 parents are invited to the Zoom Meeting to discuss the application process for Independent Secondary Schools 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday night. Use this link.
At Home PE Challenge

The whole school is taking part in an At Home PE Challenge! Each grade will earn points as they complete the activities assigned for their class.

The scores will reset each week along with a new batch of challenges!

Upper Valley Trails Alliance
While our minds are occupied by social distancing and making it through the coming weeks of staying home for the health of our communities, UVTA would like to turn your thoughts to summer!

The Upper Valley High School Trails Corps is happening this summer for high school age students (14-18)! Participants will join the UVTA staff on local trails to learn about trail building, conservation and trail stewardship by working with professional trail builders.

If your kids are looking for an awesome, educational-outdoor opportunity for the summer (that also looks great on a college application) this is the program for them!

Developing an Equanimity Mindset
Over the last several years, teachers at Crossroads have discussed the qualities and advantages of having a “growth mindset” over a “fixed mindset”.
