CARES Act Gives Big Win to Commercial Property Owners

While it wasn't Congress' intent, The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES) fixed a typo in a 2017 Tax law, resulting in a win for commercial property owners and some tenants, long after the Coronavirus pandemic subsides. The change expands the tax deduction for many kinds of property improvements to 100% of the cost, with the deduction applicable right away, not over many years.

Save Small Business Fund Launched

The Save Small Business Fund, launched April 20th , is earmarked for businesses located in economically disadvantaged communities with from 3 to 20 employees The one-time supplemental $5K cash grants are an initiative funded by contributions from corporate and philanthropic partners for employers across the United States.

Update: Small Business Improvement Fund

To give businesses time to evaluate their needs during the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Chicago will not open any SBIF areas for applications in May 2020.SBIF grants use local Tax Increment Financing (TIF) revenue to reimburse businesses for qualifying repairs and upgrades.
Three SBIF Districts opened April 1st - applications must be
submitted by 5 PM, April 30th and can be emailed to sbif@somercor.com
