Donate Gift Cards for Senior Class Decision Day

Hey Senior Parents of the Class of 2026! Decision Day is almost here, and we need your help to make it amazing for our seniors! We’re looking donations of gift cards for raffle prizes (you can Venmo @Rossana-Guimaraes if that’s easiest!). The day will be packed with lunch, dessert, games, photos, and lots of fun prizes! We can’t do this without you—please check the available slots in the sign-up linked here. Thank you so much!

Snack Donations Needed To Fuel Students Through Testing

Every year, PIE coordinates snacks for the students during their AP and Finals Testing break time. As you can imagine, this involves a significant number of students and therefore requires a tremendous amount of snacks. If you are willing to purchase any of the requested items, we would be very grateful for your support!

Sign up to donate snacks at this link.

Please deliver items to Ms. Ryan's office in Room 7111. Please be sure to label the snacks for Testing Snacks.

Students Visit Marine Lab in the Keys; Remember Beloved Teacher

Last week Ms. Phillips, Ms. Langley, Ms. Metzner-Roop, Ms. Sellers and Mr. Floyd took a group of students to the Marine Lab Environmental Education Center in the Florida Keys, where they got to observe the manatees, explore coral reefs, and commemorate Mr. Tyson McCormick! Donations made to the center in his memory were used to purchase new tables and benches around their campus (including one dedicated to Mr. McCormick), and the other half is funding scholarships to the experience.

Thanks to all who contributed and made this trip possible.

AMHS Hosts Morningside Middle Students

Last week, AMHS had the great pleasure of hosting 30 6th and 7th grade students from Morningside Middle School! NHS tutors and Raptor guides did a phenomenal job acquainting the students to AMHS and the Morningside students looked eager to pursue all the great things that Magnet has to offer.

Raptors of Distinction

Help spread the good news! Got scoop on a current or former Raptor making their mark in the world? Share it with the Raptor Report here.

On Saturday, March 28, Yiqing Ye '26 and Yidong Ye '27 presented their research on Mitochondrial-ER Stress Pathways as Therapeutic Targets for Smoking-Induced Intervertebral Disc Calcification at the South Carolina Junior Academy of Science annual competition at Furman University.

In the Cell and Molecular Biology category they won first place for their written paper and third place for their oral presentation out of hundreds of students across South Carolina.

AMHS is proud of our amazing Research Raptors! (pictured: Yidong left, Yiqing right)

Caroline Sessoms ‘26 earned the prestigious Teaching Fellows Scholarship, and it could not be more well deserved! As shared by Teacher Cadet leader Mr. Martin, “Caroline has consistently shown a deep commitment to learning, reflection, and the kind of care for others that defines great educators . She brings thoughtfulness, purpose, and a genuine desire to make a difference in every space she enters. …This honor speaks not just to her academic success, but to her character and future impact. Caroline, we are so proud of you and excited for all that lies ahead.”

Selena Owens '26 and Carson Clark '26 were selected by the SC Department of Education to be part of the SC Seal of Biliteracy Promotional Video, with their submission beating out applicants from all over the state. This significant achievement would not be possible without Sr. Barba’s great advocacy for the CCSD World Languages Department.

Check out this local summer opportunity for AMHS Math Students: the 2026 Math Research Experience for Lowcountry High School Students and Teachers. It will be held July 20-24 at The Citadel.  Students will solve math problems in groups of three with a teacher and/or Citadel faculty mentor. Mr. Rappa was a teacher last year for the camp. Mrs. Renes attended final presentations. They are seeking students excited about math with a background in algebra (or more).

If interested, you must apply. See this flyer and the website for more information. Many AMHS students have been attending this experience the last few years and have had very positive experiences.

Senior Raptors who are interested in teaching science or pursuing a post-secondary degree in science, please apply to the Leigh Snelgrove Memorial Scholarship, a $2,000 scholarship that goes directly to the school of the awardee. Email Ms. Langley with any questions.

The Meeting Street Scholarship Fund provides up to $10,000 per year in college scholarships for high-achieving South Carolina students with a demonstrated financial need (who will be attending an eligible South Carolina college/university).

We're accepting scholarship applications for the 2025-26 school year from January - May. Learn more and apply now at this link.

Community Service + Activities

Guidance counselors will regularly post opportunities for service on students' Canvas page and those are also sometimes shared on AMHS social media accounts. Students are encouraged to find opportunities for service in their own communities. Additional opportunties that are shared with the Raptor Report are listed below.
