Dear parents,

Thank you for sharing photos of your children learning at home. We have been posting them on Facebook for all to enjoy! W e are grateful for the commitment from the students, teachers and families. If you have more, you may send them to news@valleymontessorischool.com .

As we approach the end of April and get closer to summer, the obvious question is: "Will there be VMS Summer Camps this year?" Like many of you, we are constantly researching existing data and searching for new information to answer that question. We are following developments from the American Camp Association and monitoring any new state mandates regarding schools and camps. As soon as we have guidelines, we will provide them to all of you.

Rest assured, if you have signed up for summer camps, you have not paid for them yet. Summer payments are made on June 2 and July 2. If there is a state mandate to remain closed and we cancel camps before they start, you will not be charged.

If we are given clearance to offer camps, we are prepared. However it looks, we are committed to putting together a program for those who would like to have their child participate. In addition, we are exploring an "Essential Workers Childcare Program" for VMS families who are essential workers and have children in the Early Childhood and Elementary programs.

We are expecting to have additional information after May 1. Thank you for your patience.

On a different note, we have a couple fre e, live stream events coming up very soon that may be of interest to you.

TONIGHT! Live Stream Earth Day Concert - 7pm
Ask your children if they remember Mr. Eco and his "Sort Like Crazy" song that he led at a performance at VMS in February. This group provides excellent information in a very entertaining way. Log on with your children at 7pm for 50 minutes of fun!

Tomorrow: Parenting through the Pandemic - 5:30pm
This Live Stream event is hosted by Dr. Surina Mazzola of Blackhawk Family Development Center to address the challenges parents are facing during the pandemic and practical ways to stay positive through it all.

See below for information and links for both. Providing support to our VMS families is particularly important now. Please continue reading for other ideas for making this journey a little easier.

With Gratitude,
Ann

Supporting our VMS Family Businesses
The global pandemic has been difficult for everyone, but especially hard hit are our independent local businesses. Many businesses in Livermore and the Tri-Valley are owned by our VMS families. Some are restaurants that are getting creative with how to provide meals - take out, delivery, special promotions. Others providing goods and services are also looking for unique ways to keep their doors open and their employees working.

We'd like to support these families by creating a directory of VMS family businesses on our website. Next time anyone needs anything, we can check the directory before making the purchase. Shopping locally has never been more important!

If you own a business that is still operating at this time and would like to be featured in the VMS Business Directory, send your business name and website link to Directory@valleymontessorischool.com .

Although we cannot physically be together at this time, we will continue striving to keep our families connected and supported!
Providing Emotional Support
VMS Counselor, Heather Ford, has been providing support to our families throughout this challenging time. She is available for individual and family support. You can reach out to her at hford@valleymontessorischool.com .

It's easy to feel anxious during these uncertain times. Heather provides some tips here on Coping with Anxiety .
Grandparents photos
While you are at home, a fun project for your children may be going through photos. If you come across any with their grandparents, please send to grandparents@valleymontessorischool.com for our Grandparents Day slideshow.
