NAR Litigation Update: Preliminary Approval of Settlement Agreement Granted

The National Association of REALTORS® released a detailed litigation update that includes updated FAQs and timeline.

On April 19, 2024, Plaintiffs’ counsel filed a Motion for Preliminary Approval of this agreement with the federal court in the Western District of Missouri. Importantly, this filing initiates the 60-day time period during which all REALTOR® MLSs, brokerages with 2022 total transaction volume for residential home sales in excess of $2 billion, and non-REALTOR® MLSs who want to be covered by the settlement must take action. The deadline for these actions is June 18, 2024. For more information, click here. View the full estimated timeline below here.

NAR Safety Series: ‘Is This a Safe Neighborhood?’

Don’t Answer That

Let’s say you have a buyer who heard about a mugging a block away from the home you’re touring, and that buyer asks whether she “needs to worry about that kind of thing around here.”

Pause and use your situational awareness skills. What kind of neighborhood are you in? Depending on the circumstances, the client’s question could be loaded. And if you’re not thoughtful and careful about how you respond, you could easily introduce a fair housing problem. Listen as host Tracey Hawkins helps two real estate pros role-play the scenario to come to the right answer.
