Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is Underway!

Many thanks to all who have contributed to PIE's efforts to honor and celebrate AMHS teachers and staff this week! The pictures above were taken on Monday. This year’s cruise-themed celebration promises lots of fun as our hardworking teachers set sail for the week starting with a breakfast bar featuring yogurt, granola and toppings, quiche and fresh fruit!

Juniors and Seniors Enjoy the Night at Prom 2026

Prom was a magnificent success! Please see just a few images from this past Saturday above. Thank you, Ms. Krupilis and all the teachers and staff who made this event so very successful.

It's Time to Celebrate our Seniors!

Snack Donations Needed To Fuel Students Through Testing

Every year, PIE coordinates snacks for the students during their AP and Finals Testing break time. As you can imagine, this involves a significant number of students and therefore requires a tremendous amount of snacks. If you are willing to purchase any of the requested items, we would be very grateful for your support!

Sign up to donate snacks at this link.

Please deliver items to Ms. Ryan's office in Room 7111. Please be sure to label the snacks for Testing Snacks.

Learn more on the AMHS website or check out this flyer.

Again, welcome to Academic Magnet High School. We look forward to seeing you Wednesday, May 6th!

Important Tips for Upcoming AP Testing!

Raptor parents & guardians - Please encourage your learners to do the following this week in preparation for upcoming AP testing at AMHS:

  • Locate and bring in their school-issued Chromebook and charger.
  • Memorize their College Board username and password as they won’t be able to bring in scrap paper or use a saved username/password.
  • Access their lockers, where they will need to leave their backpacks on testing days. ***If a learner needs a reminder of their combination, they should see Mr. Orr.

AMHS Seniors Earn Corporate-Sponsored National Merit Scholarships

Please help us in congratulating seniors Chase Broadway, Francesco Hamilton, and Steven Moody, who earned National Merit Scholarship Corporation corporate-sponsored scholarships this year! Charleston County School District (CCSD) has a long tradition of being one of the leading districts in South Carolina with students earning National Merit Scholarships. That tradition continued last week, as the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced a state-best five CCSD students from a total of three schools won corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarships this year. Only 13 students in South Carolina received this honor in 2026.

“I'm sure this is just the beginning of the National Merit winners for our school this year,” said Jacob Perlmutter, principal of Academic Magnet. “We can continue to expect great accomplishments from Chase, Francesco, and Steven. They have been amazing leaders at

Academic Magnet, and I know they will continue to make important contributions in their fields of study.”

Opportunities

Check out this local summer opportunity for AMHS Math Students: the 2026 Math Research Experience for Lowcountry High School Students and Teachers. It will be held July 20-24 at The Citadel.  Students will solve math problems in groups of three with a teacher and/or Citadel faculty mentor. Mr. Rappa was a teacher last year for the camp. Mrs. Renes attended final presentations. They are seeking students excited about math with a background in algebra (or more).

If interested, you must apply. See this flyer and the website for more information. Many AMHS students have been attending this experience the last few years and have had very positive experiences.

Senior Raptors who are interested in teaching science or pursuing a post-secondary degree in science, please apply to the Leigh Snelgrove Memorial Scholarship, a $2,000 scholarship that goes directly to the school of the awardee. Email Ms. Langley with any questions.

The Meeting Street Scholarship Fund provides up to $10,000 per year in college scholarships for high-achieving South Carolina students with a demonstrated financial need (who will be attending an eligible South Carolina college/university).

We're accepting scholarship applications for the 2025-26 school year from January - May. Learn more and apply now at this link.

Community Service + Activities

Guidance counselors will regularly post opportunities for service on students' Canvas page and those are also sometimes shared on AMHS social media accounts. Students are encouraged to find opportunities for service in their own communities. Additional opportunties that are shared with the Raptor Report are listed below.

Have a service opportunity to share? Email raptorreporteditor@gmail.com.

Volunteers are needed for the annual Walk for Autism on Saturday April 25th, 2026 from 7 am to 1:30 pm. Any students wishing to volunteer can come for part of the hours or all. If interested in volunteering please contact Rose O'Neal at 843.553.1316 or rrzoneal@hotmail.com. Volunteers will be needed in several tasks: setting up tables and tents, manning jump castles, food stations, silent auction tables, merchandise table, ticket sales and at the end of the event breaking down tables and tents along with clean up.
