ACDP's Recommendations on Ballot Questions – Be Prepared!
As election day approaches, it's essential to familiarize yourself with the four ballot questions and how the Aiken County Democratic Party (ACDP) is voting. Please keep in mind that there is a time limit when reading the ballot in the voting booth, so you need to review these questions beforehand and be prepared before you vote.
Here's a simplified breakdown of the questions and our positions:
1 Statewide Constitutional Amendment
This question asks whether South Carolina's Constitution should be changed to specify that "ONLY" US citizens aged 18 and older who are properly registered can vote. The Constitution currently states that "EVERY" US citizen…
Our Vote: NO, Opposed to the Question
The ACDP is voting NO on this amendment because it's unnecessary. The operative and governing word in the existing Constitution is "citizen." This amendment is a futile attempt to suggest that non-citizens are voting in our elections, but it opens the door for additional legislation that could restrict voter access. We already have laws in place that ensure only citizens vote.
2 Local Education Bond Question
This question asks if the Aiken County School District should be allowed to issue up to $285 million in bonds.
Our Vote: YES, in Favor of the Question
The ACDP supports this because issuing bonds lets the school district quickly start multiple projects.
3 Sales Tax for Education
This question renews a special 1% sales tax for ten years to fund school improvements and help lower property taxes. The funds would go toward renovations and expansions at schools like South Aiken High and Silver Bluff High and constructing a new elementary school.
Our Vote: YES, in Favor of the Question
The ACDP believes this tax helps provide resources for our schools to maintain quality education and meet the district's growth.
4 Capital Project Sales Tax V Referendum
This question renews a 1% sales tax for up to seven years to fund infrastructure projects across Aiken County. These include road improvements, public safety upgrades, and community enhancements.
Our Vote: YES, in Favor of the Question
The ACDP believes this is a smart way to fund necessary projects without increasing property taxes.
Be Prepared for Election Day
Because reading the ballot is time-limited, knowing how you will vote before you enter the polling place is essential. Please review these questions and our recommendations so you're ready to cast your vote efficiently.
Let's ensure every voice is heard and every vote counts for Aiken County's future!
