Cal Bears vs. UC Davis Aggies
Saturday, August 31, 2019
Kickoff at 3:30 pm

4-H Tailgate starts at 12:30 pm
Charles Go, 4-H Advisor for Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, has organized a 4-H Day at Cal Football's first home game on Saturday, August 31! They will be playing the UC Davis Aggies at Cal Memorial Stadium.

Book your tickets at https://fevo.me/4hcal19. Each ticket is $25.
  • $10 of each ticket goes to California 4-H.
  • https://fevo.me/4hcal19 Your donation will go to the California 4-H Foundation towards 4-H programming.
  • If you use a customized url donation can go to your county's UCCE 4-H account.*
  • The first 250 tickets purchased gets a free 4-H tote bag
  • 4-H'ers will sit in one area together - sections K and KK

4-H Tailgate Party
Cal Football and the Alameda / Contra Costa County 4-H Youth Development Programs are hosting a tailgate party in a reserved area called "Tailgate Town". There will be food vendors and entertainment. During the 4-H Meet and Greet, you can connect with 4-H staff and UC ANR Vice President Glenda Humiston.

Thank you to Charles Go and the Alameda and Contra Costa County 4-H team for arranging for a 4-H Day! This is a great way to give our youth the experience of attending a college football game - and support 4-H at the same time!

Youth in Action Awards Webinar for Youth Applicants

 The 4-H National Youth Science Day is an annual initiative inspiring kids everywhere to take an active interest in STEM topics through hands-on learning. It is celebrated starting October 1 and will continue to take place in classrooms, clubs, homes, and after school spaces throughout October.

This year's Challenge, Game Changers, was developed by Google and the West Virginia University Extension. The kit teaches kids how to use computer science to create games, solve problems, and engage with topics they care passionately about.

STEM Activity: Bake Your Ice Cream
Here is a fun activity about the principles of insulation by baking ice cream! In this experiment, youth will bake ice cream in an hot oven and compare what happens when ice cream is insulated and when it is not. Using simple materials, youth will create a thermal insulator to keep heat out, like a cooler or insulated bag.

Citizen Science: NASA & 4-H Exploring Clouds guide
Add citizen science to your summer programs. Clouds have an enormous influence on Earth's energy balance, climate, and weather. Through a partnership between 4-H National Headquarters at USDA-NIFA, Rutgers 4-H and the NASA GLOBE Observer Program, 4-H youth can observe, explore and better understand clouds through the GLOBE Observer Citizen Science - Exploring Clouds 4-H Activity Guide.

The Showcase is designed to share project ideas and resources with all of the attendees at the retreat, not just those who sign up for their workshop.

California 4-H Youth Summits
Ripples of Today, Waves of Tomorrow!

Our goal is to empower youth by giving them the tools to create change in their communities. This year, we will inspire and facilitate the ability of youth to create impact in their communities on issues they care about. 

The California 4-H Youth Summits are three-day leadership development conferences hosted in four locations across the state. Youth summit programs are designed to grow the leadership abilities of intermediate 4-H members (ages 11-13). The summits are planned by a team of senior 4-H members (ages 14+) overseen by the California 4-H Management Board.

Registration will open later in August.

Online applications are now being accepted for the 2020 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Applications are due online by October 1, 2019. See the application and a list of expectations of potential California 4-H members wishing to participate in the event.

After October 1, a panel composed of members from the State 4-H Shooting Sports Advisory Committee reviews the applications and makes the selections of those who will attend the event.

Applicants are notified if they have been selected by the end of October.

Applications are due months in advance of the event to allow individuals or teams the opportunity to fundraise to help defray travel costs.

Texas 4-H STEM Ambassadors
Thank you Texas 4-H STEM Ambassadors!
A huge thank you to the Texas 4-H STEM Ambassador team, who supported this year's SLC with photography, videos, and AV support! Thank you Clara, Joseph and Olivia for representing Texas 4-H so well in California. They presented a workshop on interviewing for newscasts along with scripting, shooting and editing two newscasts for the assemblies. Their newscasts highlighted the events of the two days of SLC, and kicked off each days' events. Their team leader, Kevin Wentzel, is a California 4-H alum! He helped start up the California 4-H Tech Team and is now leading the Texas 4-H STEM Ambassador team.

Dean Memorial Legacy Endowment
Diamond Clover Awards
The California Diamond Clover is the highest achievement for which a 4-H youth member and young adult volunteers are recognized. 

All youth members and young adult volunteer who achieve the requirements are eligible to receive this award. 

This year we presented three Diamond Clover Awards at SLC:
  • Dustin Geringer
  • Katherine Shannon
  • Alyssa Hurtado

Applications are accepted year-round. Applications are reviewed by the 4-H Incentives and Recognition Advisory Committee and awarded quarterly. Learn more.
