Swine Weigh In
4-H/FFA and Open Derby Swine Weigh In is on Saturday, March 30th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the DeWitt Bus Barn. Each exhibitor is limited to 10 swine that may be weighed in for the derby show. Gilts and barrows may be weighed are eligible for the Derby Show. Your animals’ ears should be notched before weigh-in on March 30.

* NEW SWINE UPDATE: Market and Breeding Pigs do not need to attend weigh in to be ear tagged, however, you will need to pick up and purchase $2 ear tags at the Extension office and enter your animal ID's in to 4hOnline no later than the May 15th deadline. You will also need to put down a $20 refundable deposit to check out the ear tagger.

4-H Communications Day and Share the Fun
New this year!
Communications Day and Share the Fun judging will occur at Maggie's Assisted Living on June 13th from 2pm- 4pm!

The seniors will be a great audience for your presentations and anyone is welcome to come enjoy the presentations and performances. Share the Fun participants will still get to perform at the Clinton County Fair but will not have the pressure of being judged that day. Please see the Club Show Non-Livestock Fair book for information on how to get involved in the communications project area. The 2019 Fair Book will be available in April.
Dog Training Class Begins April 22
Dog classes for dog project members begin on Monday, April 22, 2019; obedience training is from 6:30-7:15pm, and agility is from 7:15-7:45, both at the Clinton County Fairgrounds. First year members will meet in the Fair Auditorium. First year members: please DO NOT bring your dog(s).

Second year members will also meet on April 22 in the Swine Barn and will bring their dog(s) to begin training. Everyone will need to bring a copy of their dog’s rabies and DHPP (Distemper/Parvo) vaccinations to the first meeting. After April 22, classes will continue on Monday evenings until July 8, excluding Memorial Day.
4-H Intermediate Trip-Night at the Zoo
Join other Intermediate 4-H members from Cedar, Clinton, Delaware, Dubuque, Jackson, and Jones counties for two days of fun at the Minnesota Zoo on April 12-13th. During this charter bus trip, 4-Her's will spend the night at the zoo. Time will include games and activities about ocean species, meeting and talking with an aquarist or zoo keeper, experience a touch tank, and two special behind-the scenes tours!
Clinton County Livestock Workshop April 6th
All 4-H, FFA, and Clover Kids Members are welcome to attend the Clinton County Livestock Workshop on April 6th. Check in starts at 10:30 a.m. and lunch will be offered starting at 11 a.m. Workshops including: Rabbit, Dog, Sheep, Goat, Pet, Beef, Bucket Bottle Calf, Poultry, Dairy, and Horse/Pony will be offered from 11:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Clinton County Fairgrounds.

Participating youth will receive a swag bag and lunch at check in. The cost is $5 at the door to participate. The beef, bucket bottle calf, sheep, and goat workshops are brought to you by PMC Agri-Services. Whether you are an experienced showman or someone interested in learning about getting started, you won't want to miss this!
Poultry Market Broiler Orders
4-H and FFA poultry project members interested in entering the Market Broiler Class at the 2019 Clinton County Fair must order their chicks from the Clinton County Extension Office.

The chicks will be ordered from Schlecht Hatchery in Miles, IA. Chicks are $2.00 per chick. It is recommended that you order a minimum of 6 to 8 birds for each pen you wish to exhibit to ensure that you have 3 of the same sex to show by the fair; however there is no limit on how many you may order.

Chicks will be shown in a pen of three at the fair (maximum of two Market Broiler entries per exhibitor). Orders need to be placed and paid for at the Extension Office by May 1. Pick-up will be May 22 at the Extension office between 12 pm and 5 pm.

Youth Quality Care Assurance Certification
Now is a great time to complete the Youth Quality Care Assurance training online. You will need to complete this training by June 1st if you are a 4th-12th grade 4-H or FFA member planning to exhibit the following animals at the Clinton County Fair:

🐂 Beef Cattle
🐮 Dairy Cattle
🐑 Sheep
🐐 Goats
🐇 Market Rabbits
🐥 Poultry
Those who tested out of FSQA and who have proof of certification will not be required to recertify with YQCA. FSQA is no longer being offered and YQCA is only being offered online.
Create an account and take the online certification at http://yqca.org/
There is a $12 fee to certify for one year and a $25 fee to test out. FFA students need to print their certificate and submit them to their Advisors. The Extension office is automatically notified when 4-H member have completed certification.
Livestock ID’s Must be Completed in 4hOnline by May 15

All 4-H and FFA members planning to show livestock at the Clinton County Club Show and/or Iowa State Fair must identify their animals by May 15. Livestock projects that must be identified include: Beef, Dairy, Goats, Dogs, Sheep, Horses, Swine, Llama, Alpaca, and Bucket Bottle Calves. Pets, Poultry, and Rabbits. Clover Kids animals do not need to be identified until the time of making a fair entry online.
4-H members are required to identify their animals at 4hOnline.com . Please go to www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/Enrollment/help.htm to get step by step instructions on how to submit your ID’s online. You will not be allowed to enter ID’s online after 11:59pm on May 15th. If you need help or have any questions, please call the Extension Office at (563) 659-5125.
Entering your livestock ID’s online:
1. Log in to 4HOnline at https://iowa.4honline.com
2. From the Member List screen, click on the Edit button to the right of your name.
3. Click on the Animals tab towards the top of the screen.
4. Choose the type of animal you are creating the ID for and click Add.
5. Enter requested information and click the save button.
*Late ID entries will not be accepted
I owa 4-H Youth Conference
If you've completed 8th grade, you're eligible to attend. You don't even have to be in 4-H to attend this conference! You will get to experience campus life and meet new people from across the state! You will be having fun while learning by doing, dancing the nights away, and serving the community. You will get to learn new things to take back to your community and school, and in the process you might even discover something new about yourself!

Animal Science Round Up- Register by April 15
Clinton County 4-H is partnering with National 4-H and Microsoft!
4-Hers, Alyse Marx and Will Martin participated in Tech Changemakers training in Chicago March 14-16 to learn about teaching adults how to use technology. Stay tuned for more information and workshops coming to a town near you!
