Jean Walton Time Off Notice

Hello 4-H Families and Leaders! Since it is getting closer to the end of the year, I will be taking days off here and there to use up excess leave time. In addition to the days off here and there, I will be out of the office for a block of time from 11/18 through 12/3 visiting family for Thanksgiving.

If you are a club leader and you are responsible for your club’s literature (project manual) orders, please note that if you send me one during the time I’m off for Thanksgiving, it will not be filled until I am back in the office. I will keep my voicemail greeting and my email out of office message current each time I am off. Thanks – Jean Walton

Happy Trails, Claudia!

This is Claudia's last week with us!

We want to say HAPPY TRAILS to our 4-H Outreach Program Supervisor, Claudia Meeks. Claudia will be stepping into a new role as the State 4-H Military Partnerships Specialist and supporting our 4-H military youth across the state. Her last day in the office will be December 4th.

We will miss having Claudia as part of our team and all her support over the last five years. She was a WONDERFUL addition to our team, and we hope that she realizes the impact that she has had on youth across the county. She was always willing to step in and help where needed. Many of you got to know her over the course of the 2022-2023 4-H year while the County 4-H Animal Sciences Specialist position was being filled.

Please take a moment and send her a farewell note. She would love to hear from you. THANK YOU SO MUCH CLAUDIA! We are extremely happy for you, as you are the perfect person for the State 4-H Military Partnerships Specialist position but know that you will always have a home in Arapahoe County.

Colorado State Fair Master Showmanship

The Fair Planning Committee has decided to nominate a youth in our county for the Master Showmanship event this year.

The event is similar to Round Robin. Participants will be asked to show a market steer, goat, lamb, hog, and horse as well as take a written exam. A Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Master Showman will be selected based on the highest combined scores of the live show classes and written exam. To enter, participants must have won their county's Master Showmanship class or their county's equivalent.

The rules and date for 2025 are not published yet, but you can read a copy of the 2024 Colorado State Fair Master Showman rules here. There is also a video of last year's show here. We will have more information in our Fair Book and will continue to post updates in our newsletter.

Stay tuned, and know that we are excited to have someone represent Arapahoe County this year.

Catch-A-Calf Applications Due December 1st

The NWSS Catch-A-Calf Program is designed so that successful participants catch a calf, feed it, and return with the animal one year later as a market-ready steer at the National Western Stock Show. The steers are judged on production and carcass quality, while the participants are judged on showmanship, record books, and a personal interview. The program is open to youth ages 14-19 as of January 1, 2025. Applications are due December 1, 2024.

Thank You Notes

Murdoch's Donation to Arapahoe Gift Fund

Thanks to a statewide partnership with Murdoch's, Colorado 4-H was the recipient of their Round Up at the register this summer. Murdoch's asked that proceeds be used in the counties in which they have stores - which includes our county. Their generous donation will be used for Arapahoe County 4-H clubs, activities and programming (not overhead). Their donation was in the amount of $4,427.00 USD.

We are asking our youth to send a thank you note to our local store. The address is included below:

The Citizenship Washington Focus application has moved up a couple months due to the deadline at the state level. This opportunity is open to 4-H members, 14-18, who have 1 year experience with leadership role. That has changed this year, in previous years it has been 15-18.
