CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST/SEPTEMBER! NOT JULY!
|
The Arapahoe County 4-H Foundation is preparing for the annual Holiday Evergreen sale.
The 4-H Foundation’s annual budget is $36,900.00. In order to meet this budget, it depends upon the Holiday Evergreen sale, donations from Friends of 4-H and other gifts.
Four college scholarships in the amount of $4,000 are given each year. The 4-H Foundation also sponsors the leader/member awards, Tools of the Project for county fair champions and reserve champions and the meal for the Achievement Awards program. It supports training for 4-H members and leaders and picks up contest fees at State 4-H Conference and State Fair and helps promote 4-H.
In order to provide funding for these activities, it relies heavily on the Holiday Evergreen sale and is asking for the support of 4-H clubs and families. The Foundation also reaches out to the public to sell holiday evergreens.
Sale materials will go out to 4-H Club leaders the first week in October. The deadline for orders this year has been extended to Thursday, October 31. 4-H Clubs are also asked to send the name of their wreath sale chairperson to Kathy McDaniel, 303-919-2177.
We are asking that all 4-H leaders and members help with this fund raiser.

The Arapahoe County 4-H Horse Judging Team- AQHYA World Champions
|
A team of four Arapahoe County 4-H Members recently traveled to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to compete at the American Quarter Horse Youth Association (AQHYA) World Show and won top honors in the Horse Judging Contest.
Going up against 22 other teams from across the United States, our team claimed the overall AQHYA World title, representing Colorado. Indiana finished in second place. The team, coached by Arapahoe County CSU Extension Agent Jonathan Vrabec, consists of Abi Frericks (16), Leah Moyer (15), Haley Arndt (15) and Kaylee Sefcovic (16).
The judging contest consisted of four halter and four performance classes. In addition to placing the eight classes, contestants gave oral reasons to defend their placings. Reasons were given on the following classes: Trail, Performance Geldings, Performance Mares and Ranch Riding. The team won Overall High Team, High Team Overall in Halter, 5
th
Overall in Performance and 5
th
Overall in Reasons. Team members also took home some individual awards in the various categories but what is most impressive was their ability as a team to place classes with 96.5% accuracy to the official placings!
The team won world champion jackets, belt buckles, statue trophies, and individual medals. The next stop for the team is the United States Arabian Horse National Championship Contest October 25th in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The team has had a remarkable year, winning 3 of 5 contests and were second in the other two contests. This includes being Reserve State Champions. Several members won scholarships at our state horse judging contest back in June.
Congratulations to the members of the Arapahoe County
4-H Horse Judging Team! I would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication to representing our county and Colorado so well!

Announcement from Jonathan
(In case you missed his email.)
|
It is with mixed emotions that I write this announcement to you, to the 4-H families of Arapahoe County. I have accepted a new position with CSU Extension as the County Director in El Paso County. This position is a step forward for my career and a great opportunity to build CSU Extension’s Programs there. I have enjoyed my time here in Arapahoe County. I truly appreciate those I have had the opportunity to work with, both youth and adults and the support they have given me! I have built some great relationships here that will last a life time. Arapahoe County has provided me so many opportunities that has allowed me to be better prepared for this next step. I believe we have moved the program forward significantly since February of 2014 when I arrived. I hope you all will continue to work to keep moving it forward after I am gone. It is important to note I am not leaving just yet! I will continue on here through the Achievement Program in October, splitting my time between the two counties. I will also be consulting on some ongoing projects and continuing to coach the Arapahoe County Horse Judging Team. Furthermore, I will be involved in the search process for my successor as well as serve as a mentor to them once they are on-board. Until then Bailey Craft (our intern for the past two years) will serve in an interim role filling in to support the Livestock, Horse and Shooting Sports Programs. If it wasn’t for this opportunity to advance my career as a County Director I would not be leaving Arapahoe County. This is truly a great place to be a 4-H Agent in a 4-H Program that is positioned to be an example for the rest of the state. Again, I will miss all of you as well as being a part of Arapahoe County’s CSU Extension
4-H Program!
