Take advantage of participating in our county contests, with the chance to take your talent to state! Cake Decorating, Speech & Demo, and Performing Arts contests rules and registration forms are available below. You must be taking a Cake Decorating project in order to participate in that contest, except for Cloverbuds. The other contests are open to all enrolled 4-H Members and Cloverbuds! Cloverbuds do not go to state. Registration is due March 23rd. Tomorrow!
New Policy for
New Animal Project Leaders

Starting April 1, all new volunteer leaders of an animal project will need to go through an interview process with the Douglas County 4-H Agent. Current animal project leaders do not have to do an interview.Those serving as assistants are not required to interview. If you have any questions, please contact Claudia Meeks at [email protected]

Beef Project Clinic
We will be hosting a 4-H Beef Clinic on Saturday, April 14 from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Extension Office in the basement conference room. Topics include: nutrition, care, and housing.This will be open to ALL 4-H members and lunch will be provided.

Still need your Hunter Safety Card?
There are still spots available in Eric Harper's Internet Conclusion Hunter Education Course on March 31st from Noon to 6 PM at CALF Lowell Ranch. Prior to arrival on that day, students will need to have completed the online course (link to the right) and bring the completion certificate to the class on the 31st. The online course costs $24.50. There is no charge for the conclusion class on March 31st.

4-H Poultry Clinic
Saturday, March 31st

Make plans to attend the 4-H Poultry Clinic on Saturday, March 31 at 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the multiple purpose building at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. This clinic is open to all poultry project members and 4-Hers who may be interested in the poultry project. This is en educational event that covers the health and wellness of your feathered friends!
4-H Horse Levels Testing

We are currently taking appointments for 4-H Horse Level Written Tests. If you wish to take a test or retake a test, please contact our 4-H Agent, Claudia Meeks, at [email protected] to schedule an appointment. Tests will ONLY be administered via appointments with the Extension Office.

Market Swine Tagging and Identification
All swine are self-tagged by 4-H Members. Ear tags must be picked up at the Extension Office and will be available starting April 2. Your swine must be tagged by April 30th.

Swine ID Forms are also due to the Extension Office by April 30th. A link to the form is below and must be filled out with the necessary photos described in the form.

Shooting Sports Parent and Member Meeting

All members and parents are strongly encouraged to attend. We will be covering guidelines, county and state shoot information, and answer any questions you may have. 
Douglas County 4-H Meat Quality Assurance (MQA)/Pork Quality Assurance (PQA)
Kirk Hall, DC Fairgrounds
April 26th, 4:00-7:00 pm (Must arrive before 6 pm)
REQUIREMENTS: All first year project members exhibiting any livestock project (except horse, llama, cat and dog) are required to attend quality assurance training. This does include all poultry and rabbit members. 
 
Those who attended an MQA program in 2017 will not have to attend one in 2018.  Exception: If you have just turned 14 years old or are a first year hog project member; then you are required to attend an MQA seminar in 2018, even if you attended one in 2017. Only 14-year-old members (as of 12/31/17) need to attend to meet senior requirements. 
 
If you are required to attend MQA or PQA training and fail to do so, you will not be allowed to show livestock at the 2018 Douglas County Fair or State Fair. If you have questions, call the Extension Office at 720-733-6940. 
 
SWINE PROJECT MEMBERS ONLY: If 4-Hers are going to show at state or national contests, then they MUST PASS a PQA test every year. If 4-Hers are not planning on showing at any state or national contest, then MQA rules apply.
 
This year’s training will be held on April 26th. This will be the only training offered in Douglas County this year. Training will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Plan at least an hour to move through the stations. Come when you can—arrive before 6 pm. Email Claudia to RSVP: [email protected].
