Hello, 4-H Community!

This program is near and dear to my heart, and I want to thank each of you for creating such a spectacular community. 

After much deliberation (and a lot of tears), I have decided to leave my position as a 4-H Youth Specialist in Douglas County. Taking a new position will allow me to spend more time with my family and provide better financial support. My last day of work will be next Friday, the 27th.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your 4-H journey and for making Douglas County 4-H amazing. I am honored to have worked with you and your families these past four years. I have loved every second of cleaning up cake spills, crafting workshops, watching our community grow, and embracing learning by doing.

After March 27th, Julie will be your contact for all things related to shooting sports, and Sylvia will be your contact for general projects. Additional 4-H programming questions should be sent to Mercedes. They are an amazing team who will ensure this county remains successful.

We have some of the best youth in the state of Colorado, and it has been my privilege to see their drive, creativity, and love for 4-H firsthand. I will continue my scheduled programming until my departure date. In the meantime, please let me know if you have comments, questions, or concerns.

Please review the information below and now is the time to start signing up for Practices at the links below. If you have any questions or need any support, please reach out to your Shooting Sports Project Leader, Club Leader or to our office.

If you missed the Shooting Sports Meeting, you must schedule time to come to the Extension Office to review what you missed and pickup your Practice Card. Please call (720) 733-6940 or email to schedule time to review this information with Julie Tanaka.

Reminder, you must have your 2026 Practice Card to be able to participate at 4-H Shooting Sports Practices (see messages above).

Click the links below to use the Signup Genius to sign up for a practice. Signing up is your commitment to Show Up and Participate at this practice. Practice schedules will fill up, waitlists are available. Please be sure to delete your spot at a practice if you are unable to attend in the Signup Genius or call the Extension Office at 720-733-6940. This will open up a spot for another member to attend practice.

You will get a warning from the office if you are a no-show to practice and you will lose ability to sign up for future practices, so please be courteous to let us know if you need to cancel well in advance, Thank you!

The Douglas County 4-H Horse Steering Committee is proud to present the Douglas County Buckle Series again this year!

This year the show will include: Showmanship, English Equitation (Pattern and Rail classes), Show Hack, English Control/Hunter Hack, Western Horsemanship (Pattern and Rail classes), Ranch Riding, and Reining/Western Riding. We will have divisions for Walk/Trot (limited to Douglas County 4-H youth only), 8-13, 14-18 and 19+.

The Horse Steering Committee would love to see you all at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on these dates: Sunday March 22^nd, April 25^th, May 17^th, and June 13^th.

El Paso County Ride Smart: English & Western 4-H Clinic

We are excited to offer the Ride Smart: English & Western 4-H Clinic for youth interested in building their horsemanship skills in both disciplines. This clinic will focus on fundamentals, improving riding skills, and learning techniques.

Space is limited to 10 riders per session, and spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Cost: $15 per session. An email confirmation stating will be sent on April 1, 2026. 

This clinic is a great opportunity for youth to receive instruction and strengthen their riding foundation in a supportive learning environment.

Jonathan Marr Memorial Scholarships – Due April 1

Application information for the Jonathan Marr Memorial Scholarship can be found here.

One $500.00 scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating senior 4-H Member who has been enrolled in Shooting Sports for a minimum of four years. This scholarship is intended to assist individuals entering a postsecondary vocational or technical field, such as welding, carpentry, mechanics, etc. 

**New this year: members who have been in Metal Working are also eligible to apply for the scholarship.

FFA Oyster Fry

Friday Mar 27, 2026 , at the Eagles Club in Castle Rock, 1300 Caprice Drive.
