Hey, Grace’rs,

When does a dad joke become a dad joke?

I have no idea.

When it becomes apparent.

What did the daddy buffalo say to his son before his son left for school?

I don’t know.

It’s Father’s Day this weekend…a chance for us to give thanks to and for our dads, and for the significant men in our lives who have modeled for us good manhood.

2000 years ago Jesus did something so scandalous it rocked the world, and continues to do so to this day. He had the audacity to address God as Father, using the intimate Aramaic word, Daddy. He didn’t simply use Father as a metaphor for God. He addressed God as Father/Daddy and invited us to do the same.

And then he showed us what this Heavenly Father is like: Committed…Lavish in Generosity…Forgiving…Fiercely Protective…Tender…Loving…Recklessly Gracious.

The Lord is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He will not always accuse,
nor will he keep his anger forever.
10  He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
11  For as the heavens are high above the earth,
    so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
12  as far as the east is from the west,
so far he removes our transgressions from us.
13  As a father has compassion for his children,
so the Lord has compassion for those who fear him. (Psalm 103)

God, your Father, puts the Happy into Father’s Day. Jesus invites you to live like the loved Sons and Daughters of God that you are!
