Good morning everyone, What I’m about to write isn’t a political statement so I’d appreciate not getting lots of angry emails from people telling me that I’m attacking the Governor, which I’m not, so take a deep breath. I’m also not grumpy. I write this after having my second cup of coffee, which always puts me in my happy place. Lol. This week brought an announcement from the Governor’s office that he was “opening up” venues more. This got reported by multiple sources and now venues across the state are getting emails and calls asking why we aren’t opening up inside. The whole situation is really unfortunate and causing a lot of unnecessary stress on venues who have been shuttered for a year. The fact is that the new guidelines set out for venues do very little, if anything, to open venues up. I’m not saying whether venues should have restrictions lifted or not. All I am saying is this reported “lifting” of restrictions is a farce and was only announced to make it appear that the State is opening up its performing arts businesses. Like my mother used to say “just because you say it doesn’t make it so”. So... I’d like to go on the record right now before I receive any more emails and calls from patrons that these “lifted” restrictions will not affect Tupelo Music Hall’s indoor capacity enough to allow us to open indoors and certainly will not bring back the hundreds of tours that have been rescheduled by artists. We will be outside this Summer as previously announced, hosting fantastic bands in the warm Summer sun. Hopefully we will return indoors in the Fall and stay there. Forever and ever.
