Greetings!

Did you know the heart beats about 2.5 billion times over the average lifetime? Given the heart's never-ending workload, it's a wonder it performs so well, for so long, for so many people.

The month of February isn’t just for celebrating Valentine’s Day with your special someone or shopping the discounted candy aisle the day after.

It’s also Heart Month!

So, let’s brush up on our heart health knowledge...

Eat for your
Heart
Your heart works best when it runs on clean fuel. That means lots of whole, plant-based foods (like fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds) and fewer refined or processed foods (like white bread, pasta, crackers, and cookies).
Try this Recipe!
Fiesta Salsa/Salad

Ingredients:
2 cups Tomatoes (fresh, diced, and drained)
2 cups Avocado (diced)
2 cups Corn (raw, sliced off the cob)
1 can Black Beans (whole, organic, drained and rinsed)
1 Mango
1 Onion (finely diced)
1 cup Cilantro (leaves, rough chopped)
Lime Juice to taste
Pinch of Cayenne Pepper to taste

Directions:
Best to use tomatoes, avocado, and mango that are still slightly firm so they do not fall apart in the salsa/salad. Add corn, tomatoes, avocado, black beans, onion, and cilantro into bowl. Gently toss to mix. Add lime juice and cayenne to taste. Gently toss. Best served when fresh and chilled.
Optional: As a salad, best served on a bed of greens with a wedge of lime and topped with chicken, or your favorite lean protein.
Move More!
Your  heart  is a muscle, and it gets stronger and healthier if you lead an active life. It's never too late to start  exercising , and you don't have to be an athlete. Even taking a brisk walk for 30 minutes a day can make a big difference.
