Dear HCP4,

My husband, three daughters, and I love Harris County’s beautiful spring! We have been enjoying this lovely weather at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and at our neighborhood park, and we are eagerly awaiting wildflower season.

Harris County Precinct 4 is providing opportunities to share the joys of spring and build deeper connections with your family, neighbors, and community. 

In the spirit of rodeo season, Weekley Community Center is hosting a Rodeo Chili Cook-off Potluck. For residents age 50 and older, Precinct 4 will offer bus transportation to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo from Tracy Gee Community Center on March 8. Those interested can register here. Families can also rock their best Texan gear and enjoy music and baked potatoes at Tracy Gee Community Center’s “Let’s Rope a Russet” baked potato luncheon on March 14. 

Our Weekley and Bayland Community Centers are hosting activities for the whole family at Family Fun Nights every Friday. My team and I also invite you to bring your family and friends to Precinct 4’s first-ever Spring Egg Hunt on March 23 at 11 a.m. at Burnett Bayland Park. 

At Precinct 4, we are working to expand programming for all ages at our community centers and parks. We want these spaces—your spaces—to be like a second home for your family. Be sure to visit Precinct 4’s events and programs page to see the recurring classes and special events are happening at your nearby community center.  

We are delivering important programming outside of our community centers and parks, as well. On March 19, we’ll host the second annual Iftar celebration at the Raindrop Turkish Community Center, and the Women’s History Luncheon on March 27 at Gujarati Samaj Houston. 

Lastly, I invite you to join us at our next Listening Tour, which will be held at Weekley Community Center on March 23.I look forward to hearing your ideas and concerns, as—together—we continue shaping a brighter future for Precinct 4.

Commissioner Lesley Briones proudly represented Harris County at the National Association of Counties Legislative Conference in Washington D.C. this month.

Her advocacy at the conference ensures that the community's voice is heard at the federal level. During the event, she had the opportunity to meet with federal leaders, including President Joe Biden.

In recognition of Black History Month, Commissioner Briones hosted a networking breakfast and panel discussion featuring inspiring Black women leaders from Harris County.

Panelists included County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth, Houston City Council Member Tiffany Thomas, State Rep. Dr. Alma Allen, County Public Health Executive Director Barbie Robinson, County Treasurer Dr. Carla Wyatt, and Judge Audrie Lawton-Evans.

Precinct 4 Engages Community in Reshaping Burnett Bayland Park

Commissioner Briones hosted the second community workshop at Burnett Bayland Park!

During the workshop, Precinct 4 staff was able to gather input on design concepts that will be used to build a beautiful and safe park in the heart of Gulfton.

Sharpstown trail to increase access and safety

Commissioner Lesley Briones, alongside multiple city of Houston officials and the Houston Parks Board broke ground on the Sharpstown Trail. The first phase of the project will construct a 1.8 mile trail that is partially funded by $1.5M investment under the Precinct 4 'Places 4 People' initiative. When completed, the trail will span 3-miles and run along Gessner Road to provide safe routes and connect communities to opportunity.

✅ Language Access: The Harris County Commissioners Court announced the acceptance of a $515,000 grant from the Houston Endowment! This funding will establish a Language Access Program, enhancing services for over 850,000 Harris County residents with limited English proficiency.

✅ Supporting Working Moms: The Court passed new county guidelines to provide dedicated time for breastfeeding mothers during their workday. Thanks to the generous donation from the Houston Bar Foundation, lactation pods will also soon be installed in our district courthouses, making it easier for working parents to balance their responsibilities.

✅ Commissioner Briones appointed to H-GAC Board: Commissioner Briones was chosen by her colleagues to represent Harris County on the Houston Galveston Area Council (H-GAC). This significant role involves managing substantial federal funding for crucial initiatives like flood protection and infrastructure projects.

Commissioner Briones explored Fortis Academy, which is part of Harris County Department of Education. Dedicated to personalized learning, Fortis serves students with disabilities, troubled youth, and those on the path to recovery.

Women's Commission hosts Vision Tour at Bayland CC
