 Quincy Station Landmarking Recommendation Approved by Commission on Chicago Landmarks

Alderman Reilly is very pleased to announce that the final recommendation for landmarking the Quincy Elevated Station at 220 S. Wells Street was recently approved at the September 7, 2017 meeting of the Commission on Chicago Landmarks.
Opened for service on October 3, 1897, the Quincy Elevated Station has served generations of Chicagoans and visitors to the City, and remains the best example of an original Loop "'L' Station.

With the exception of a hiatus for restoration in the 1980s, the Station has been in daily service for 120 years.
The massive riveted steel elevated structure is a tangible symbol of the Industrial Revolution which involved major changes in construction and transportation. The structure also displays fine architectural detail, including Neoclassical-style pressed-metal ornamentation, and pressed metal and oak finishes in the station houses.
The Loop 'L' and Station was designed by engineer John Alexander Waddell, an authority on steel construction who designed bridges across the globe. The 'L' has become an iconic feature of the city. Its encircling perimeter so clearly defines the central business district that it gave downtown Chicago its famous nickname, the Loop.
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) requested the designation as part of its 125th anniversary of the Loop 'L' service in Chicago.
A renovation project for Quincy Station is also underway to make the 120-year-old station fully wheelchair accessible, while preserving its historical appearance.
The $18.2 million project is the largest renovation in nearly 30 years for Quincy, which serves more than 2.2 million riders annually via the Brown, Orange, Pink and Purple lines and is a major transfer point for 10 CTA bus routes, Union Station and the LaSalle Street Metra Station. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The Commission on Chicago Landmark's recommendation will be introduced to City Council in October, and be referred to the Committee on Zoning, Landmarks and Building Standards. At the Committee meeting where designation is considered, the public can make oral or written statements for the Committee's consideration. Upcoming Committee meeting agendas are posted on the City Clerk's website. After Committee, the landmarking will require a full City Council vote.

Upcoming Community Presentation for Proposed Development at 365 West Huron Street

Alderman Reilly invites you to join him at an informational presentation regarding a new development proposal at 365 West Huron Street. Representatives of Morningside Huron, LLC will present their plans and answer any questions you may have about this proposal.
Morningside Huron LLC has submitted a proposal to construct a 10-story, 138-foot tall building containing 45 residential condominium units. The building will provide 51 parking spaces with a majority of the spaces below grade. The site is currently a surface parking lot.

Randolph and Wabash El Station Demolition
Overall Duration: 3 Months (September 5 through November 30)
Working hours (Monday through Friday):

West Platform - North and South of Randolph:

Traffic Impacts:
There will be no parking signs posted on the west curb lane from Randolph to Lake Street coinciding with the station demolition.
Full street access on Randolph and Wabash will remain throughout the project.
One traffic lane on Wabash, Randolph to Lake will be closed to allow for construction staging.
Noise Impacts:
While CDOT will manage noise as much as possible, the following noise disruptions will be heard throughout the night:
- CTA air horns
- Loading dumpsters
- Chainsaws cutting timber platform beams
- General equipment noises
CDOT will attempt to demo the noisiest items before midnight.
Film Notice: Chicago Fire at New CTA Station-Washington and Wabash
Please be advised that on
Monday, September 18, from
6am to 7pm, the following streets will experience intermittent traffic control of no more than five (5) minutes to allow for the filming of Chicago Fire.
- State, Madison to Washington (6am to 9am)
- Wabash, Randolph to Madison (8am to 4pm)
- Garland, Randolph to Madison (4am to 7pm).
No Parking Tow Zone Signs will be posted along the following streets from 3am to 9pm during the filming:
- Both sides of Washington, State to Michigan
- Both sides of Wabash, Washington to Madison
- Both sides of Garland, Randolph to Washington
- South side of Randolph, Michigan to Columbus
Residents should allow extra travel time and not be alarmed as the filming will involve first response vehicles and filming on the station.
WB I-290 Congress Parkway Work
The Contractor for NB I-90/94 to EB Congress Parkway Ramp is scheduled to work this weekend from 11pm t
o 9am on Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16.
They will be installing beams over the local roadways and expressway ramp. The noise will mostly consist of vehicles and machinery.
It is anticipated that this will be completed by the morning of Sunday, September 17th.
Crane Lift at 34 W Illinois

Traffic Impact:
There will be a full street c
losure of Illinois Dearborn to State during this time.
- The crane company will leave the curb and bike lane open for valet pick up and drop off at The Hampton Inn.
- All other traffic will be re-routed North on Dearborn St., West on Ohio St. and South on State St. back to Illinois St. (See attached re-route plan).
People's Gas Installation of Gas Main on Monroe, from Michigan to Franklin
People's Gas will be installing a new gas main on Monroe. The project started Monday, August 21. The company will be working in stages, beginning at Michigan and working west to Franklin.
While at least one lane of Monroe will be open to traffic, motorists should expect delays on Monroe and the cross streets of State, Dearborn, Clark, LaSalle, and Wells adjacent to the work on Monroe.
Motorists who normally use Monroe to travel from the Loop to Michigan or Lake Shore Drive should consider alternate eastbound streets such as Jackson, Washington or Lake.
Lake Street Bridge Lane Closures
The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced that as of Friday, August 18, one westbound traffic lane will be closed for maintenance. There will be one westbound lane open for traffic through October 15.
During that closure, motorists traveling eastbound should turn southbound on Clinton Street, to eastbound Washington Boulevard, to northbound Wacker Drive, and back to eastbound Lake Street. Motorists traveling westbound on Lake Street should turn southbound on Wacker Drive, to westbound Randolph Street, to northbound Canal Street, and back to westbound Lake Street.

Upcoming Ravenswood Loop Connector (RLC) Signal Project Work from Chicago to Merchandise Mart
The start day for upcoming Ravenswood Loop Connector Signal work from Chicago to Merchandise Mart is Sunday, September 24, 2017. The work will take approximately 13 weeks to complete, with an end date scheduled for mid-November 2017.
Work Hours: Weeknights, 9pm to 5am
Location: Brown Line - CTA elevated structure, from Chicago Station to the Merchandise Mart Station
Local Impact:
- There will be temporary street obstructions to allow for positioning staging of equipment and for actual construction.
- There will be noise while work is being performed:
- Use of pneumatic tools
- Beeping from back up alarms on maintenance equipment and vehicles
- Engine noise from diesel track maintenance equipment
- Flagging horns
- Railroad personnel communication
Traffic Impact for Wanda Vista Construction
Now through project completion, Field Boulevard from Lower Wacker to South Water Street will be closed. Please plan accordingly.
Traffic Impacts for Hubbard and Wells Development
Now through project completion, there will be a curb lane and sidewalk closure of the west side of Wells, from Hubbard to Kinzie. No Parking/Tow Zone signs will be in effect along the west side of Wells, from Hubbard to 400 N Wells. No Parking/Tow Zone signs will be in effect along the south side of Hubbard, from Franklin to Wells.
Traffic Impacts for 151 N. Franklin Development
Now through project completion, there will be a curb lane closure on Franklin, from Randolph to Couch Place, and a single traffic lane closure on Randolph, from Wells to Franklin. Fencing and traffic barricades have been set up for safety.
Traffic Impacts for 640 N. Wells Development
Now through project completion, the parking lane on the west side on Wells, between Erie and Ontario, will be closed. Fencing and traffic barricades have been set up for safety.
