About the Bands

Friday, August 19

6:00 pm - 7:00 pm                  JD Summers Band

The JD Summers Band is anchored by the young and charismatic, JD Summers. Possessing the magnetism of James Brown and the soulfulness of Otis Redding, it's hard to turn away from this young, energetic performer when he hits the stage. Regardless if he's shredding on the guitar or pounding on the keys, young and old alike cannot help but to move to the music when he turns it on.

The JD Summers Band is made up of some of the funkiest and soulful musicians in the Kansas City area. Each member, over the years, has been in several great bands. Finally, coming together in one group to bring you the best music that they possibly can. The groove that this group brings is nothing to be expected. Giving out a wide range of funky blues, rock & soul. Not to mention a little country and pop . . . "MUSIC WITH ATTITUDE'. http://www.jdsband.com/

7:30 pm - 8:30 pm                 James Ward Band - Main Stage

The James Ward Band (The JWB) is a Contemporary Jazz / Smooth Jazz Band, whose show consists of a combination of Latin, R&B, Fusion, Funk, Jazz, and Gospel.  On May 12, 2007, they released their debut album entitled "In Perspective", which debuted on the Smooth Jazz Indie Charts at #42 and quickly soared to the top 20 and stayed for a number of weeks. http://thejwb.com/

9:00 pm - 10:00 pm                The Porch Lights - Main Stage

Saturday, August 20

11:00 am - 3:00 pm                Harvey Band - Pocket Park

We are The Harvey's. We are: Sam Harvey, Quinn Harvey and Bob Harvey. For more years than I choose to remember The Bob Harvey Band has been playing in the Kansas City area. Over the years it has featured (in my opinion) the area's best talent such as Chad Osborne, Paul Greenlease, Steve and Eric Nettle, etc., etc. While most bands have proclaimed how hard they "rawk" or that they are masters of a specific genre, the BHB has chosen to let people decide for themselves.

Although we have been playing nightclubs collectively for years, my sons and I have been playing together since they were children. We have performed for many churches in the area playing traditional, gospel and bluegrass together for almost 12 years.

As far as our repertoire and genre, we simply try to do music that we like. Although our songlist is for the most part wide and varied we strive to do music that we personally find interesting. That is one of the advantages of playing with guys you trust to sound excellent.

1:00 pm - 2:00 pm                  Street Corner Choir - Main Stage

Street Corner Choir is the songwriting duo of Lezlie Revelle and David Hakan. With inspired guitar arrangements, solid gold lyrics, and velvet harmonies, you'll think you just stepped off the bus and entered the gates of heaven. Their first CD, Changing with the Sky, was released in 2010. www.streetcornerchoir.com

4:00 pm - 5:00 pm                  Skip Hawkins Band - Main Stage

5:30 pm - 6:30 pm                  Coyote Bill - Main Stage

Coyote Bill has been playing the Blues for a long time. He grew up on the Southside of Chicago, but started playing music as a teenager in the Dallas area. In the early 90's Bill moved back to Chicago and has been grinding out his own brand of bottleneck Blues & Boogie guitar ever since. He practiced his craft all over northern Illinois until 2007 when he moved to Kansas City, where he plays both solo and with the band. http://www.coyotebill.com/index.html

7:00 pm - 8:00 pm                  Sons of Brazil - Main Stage

In Kansas City, there is a popular jazz group that has performed every week since their inception in 1991. This would not be so remarkable, as Kansas City is renowned for its tradition of great jazz since the days of Count Basie and Charlie Parker. What is remarkable is that this group of native Kansas Citians plays nothing but Brazilian jazz, with a flavor and passion one might think could only be found at a night club in Ipanema or Leblon. The Sons of Brasil invite you to sample these sounds, which stem from their love and admiration of "musica bem brasileira." http://thesonsofbrasil.com/

8:30 pm - 10:00 pm                Ernest James Zydeco - Main Stage

After an evening spent at an Ernest James Zydeco show, one finds oneself reverberating from the fresh take on American roots music: the bellow shaking accordion being stretched out to the rhythm scratched by the washboard and spoons: the aching voice of the resonator slide guitar reverberating in your ears. Ernest James Zydeco is inspired by roots music, but makes their own form of 21st Century music. Based out of Kansas City, Missouri, you will find them at regional festivals and clubs.

Ernest James, a professional zydeco and blues musician for over 15 years, draws on his southern roots to share his joy in music. The band is supporting their brand new recording, "Jubilee," a cd that was recorded live with the full band in the studio. Jaisson Taylor, a veteran on drums, has toured the world and played with the likes of McKinley Morganfield, Koko Taylor, Bill Withers and countless other R&B and Blues greats. His presence in the band represents a tie to a great musical legacy. Tony LaCroix is the newest member of the band, playing guitar. He fell perfectly into place just before the recording of the cd "Jubilee". Barry Bob Barnes rubs the washboard for the band and is a multi instrumentalist and performance artist who brings great spirit to the band. DJ Clem plays bass guitar. A multi instrumentalist of immeasurable talent, he is an integral member of many KC bands. www.reverbnation.com/ernestjameszydeco /

2:30 pm - 3:30 pm                  Jim Abel - Main Stage

Jim Abel writes and performs a unique style of folk and alternative music, including humorous and serious songs about love, friends, and family.  Widely acclaimed for his compelling music and intelligent lyrics, Abel plays regularly in venues across the Kansas City area and surrounding communities and has received significant coverage in print and broadcast media.  Abel released his latest CD, Thunder, in 2008. www.wordsandmusic.us

4:00 pm - 5:00 pm                  Larry Garrett - Main Stage

Larry Garrett has been performing in the Kansas City area since the mid-80s.  He plays the guitar and harmonica, and sings in coffeehouses, libraries, churches, bars, restaurants, and festivals, as well as at private parties.  Garrett's music focuses on family and friends, and audiences always smile at his poignant approach to life. www.myspace.com/larrtygarrett
