Hello Friend,
Sweet little Birdie is one of 452 animals that came into our care in January! Her previous owner reached out to our volunteer, Anna, who has been working in the community for many years. Although she loved her dearly, she felt that she was no longer in a position to offer Birdie the care she needed; especially in her golden years. Both Anna and her mum Violet (our eldest volunteer) headed out to pick this sweet little girl up so she could make her way to AARCS and get the medical care she needs moving forward. We suspect she is at least 14 years old, but, boy oh boy, is she ever full of spunk!
Birdie is completely blind due to hyper-mature cataracts and has a severe case of dental disease that will require full mouth extractions. This little love is a shark when it comes to food and snacks! So we are positive she will feel much better once her painful mouth and decaying teeth are dealt with. Fortunately her heart sounds good and her bloodwork was normal otherwise! πŸ’“
Birdie is not ready for adoption at this time but is being fostered by one of our medical staff members. Our focus right now is getting her medical concerns addressed so she can feel better and live out her golden years in peace and pain free!
Our very own volunteer Violet (Vi) is still going strong, helping animals like Birdie! πŸ’“ In October, Vi celebrated her 100th Birthday β€” watch her birthday tribute video here! Violet is a great reminder that no matter what, there is always something you can do to help animals in need!

These days Vi doesn’t get out like she used too, but you can bet your bottom dollar she’s still actively volunteering however she can! Even if it’s as simple as cutting one time rags for our shelters β€” which really is a very important job!

Who knew we had so many talented artists in shelter? 🎨 Our shelter dogs have been hard "at work" creating mini masterpieces! 🐾

We asked our Shelter Dogs what they wanted most to improve their stay while in shelter, and do you know what they said? ENRICHMENT TOYS! πŸ•
