Lawrence and Sokul win the Gold Medals for the third time ...
Lawrence and Sokul take home the GOLD
Saskatoon, SK.  In the 46th playing of the Women's Rosebowl Championship at the Greenbryre GCC the duo of Cheryl Lawrence and Linda Sokul, from the Wynyard GC took home the gold medals.  It came down to the final hole however the contest was out of their control.

It came down to two putts from the team of Kim Boreen and Debbie Dirven, from Antler Acres GC in Churchbridge.  Both players had putts of more than 30 feet which rimmed the hole but failed to reach the bottom.  In the end, the team from Wynyard enjoyed a 1 shot victory to claim their 3rd Provincial Women's Rosebowl title.  The others came in 2010 and 2011.
The third place team of June Crawford and Mamin-Lee Sing, from Regina and playing out of the Tor Hill GC made a good charge for the title however the 4 shot difference to start the day was too much of an obstacle to overcome.
Medals presented:
  • Gold - Cheryl Lawrence & Linda Sokul
  • Silver - Kim Boreen & Debbie Dirven
  • Bronze - June Crawford & Mamin-Lee Sing

From L-R (Kim Boreen, Debbie Dirven, Cheryl Lawrence, Linda Sokul, June Crawford and Mamin-Lee Sing)

FORMAT:
The Women's Rosebowl is a fun yet competitive high handicap tournament for female members with a converted Course Handicap of 19 and no more than 36.  When a player plays a hole, she records a gross score for the hole.  The better of the two partner scores minus the handicap stroke allotment per hole determines the team score for each hole.  Under this format, a minimum of 1 player per team must complete a hole.  Therefore, if a player is struggling on a hole, she may pick up and rely solely on her partner.  The successful strategy for this event is ... each player can play a good hole and a bad hole.  The hope is that the bad hole is not the same one as your partner.
