NOTICE TO RESIDENTS NEARS LIVE OAK DRIVE BRIDGE IN MCLEAN

Construction activities planned during week of December 26-29

December 21, 2023

What’s Happening?

Continued drainage and waterline work is planned for next week between the Christmas and New Year holidays (December 26-29). The work is necessary to prepare the area for the upcoming slight shift of a short section of Live Oak Drive next to the Langley Swim and Tennis Club and the immediately adjacent residences. This road shift is necessary for the future installation of retaining walls adjacent to the future George Washington Memorial Parkway ramp to southbound I-495, which must be done prior to opening the new 495 Express Lanes extension in December 2025.

What Should Neighbors Expect?

Looking toward the Live Oak bridge, an excavator digs a trench in

mid-November 2023

Elements of the work may require Live Oak Drive to be narrowed to one lane. When this occurs, traffic flaggers will be on site to wave through vehicles in a safe and efficient manner. The work itself involves excavators, bulldozers, cranes and other large equipment digging ditches, moving earth, and placing drainage and waterline units.

All construction work is dependent on weather conditions and other factors.

The 495 NEXT project team appreciates the community’s understanding as this time sensitive work moves forward.

What Happens Next?

Subsequent work includes finishing the drainage and waterline work, leveling the area, laying the foundation of the segment of Live Oak Drive that will be shifted, and paving the road. This work is anticipated to be completed in early 2024.
