LAUNCH 2014 - Connect launchStudent Ministry and The Dream House

LAUNCH is in year three and has grown to be a major mission and service project for Mid Hi, Sr Hi, college aged students and their adult leaders. It's become an annual summer opportunity where students have the chance to impact their community for the Kingdom of God. Over four days, students and adults spent time serving in our community in the name of Jesus.

This year we returned to The Dream House; a respite home for medically fragile children located in Lilburn. Students and adults took on projects consisting of yard work, painting, deck repair, erosion control and various other opportunities to help make The Dream House property an inviting and welcoming place. One of the highlights was seeing students load, move and spread six dump truck loads of mulch.

This was very worthy project as we came together to serve people we may never even meet. Imagine the constant concern for a parent who cares for a child 24/7; and the anxiety of leaving that child with other people for even a brief period. The work we did helped to communicate that The Dream House is a well thought out, caring, professional ministry; one that parents can feel comfortable about.

Students also stained a home in the Stone Mountain area for an underemployed single mom.

We had a great time serving together and look forward to more opportunities to serve our community in the name of Jesus.

The United Methodist Children's Home (UMCH) is a safe haven for abused children and struggling families, and we have been since 1871. Our mission is to provide redemptive, healing services that bring meaningful change to the lives of children and families. Through all our programs - including foster care, residential programs for youth, and family preservation services - we offer holistic care to children, youth and families. Our goal for everyone we serve is to find their "Forever Family" - what we call permanency. Whether that is through adoption, reunification, staying together or standing on their own, we help our children find their home.

News & Prayer Requests from Christina Crimcrim

Hello all! I hope each of you is doing wonderfully and enjoying the summer season! It is so incredibly hot here in Atlanta but if you are used to it it's not so bad! So much has happened in the last month and I am excited to share it with you! Below this note you can see all of the stuff I've had the privilege of being a part of.

Most importantly though is some big news which impacts my term of service and the next chapter of my life. July 31 I will be leaving the mission field and August 31 will be the end of my term of service with The Mission Society.

Originally I had anticipated going through December but for a few reasons, I have decided that it would be best to wrap up my field work in July and move on to the next chapter. I promise there is nothing negative going on, but after evaluating many different aspects of my ministry work, it became apparent that in order to finish my term well, I would need to leave sooner than I thought.

There was some fear of what would happen next but over the last few weeks, God has given me such a sense of peace about it. My friends and supervisors at CenterForm have been so supportive and encouraging of this as well and we are just enjoying the last few weeks of working together. Honestly, if this had to happen, this is the exact way I would want it to. Click here for full newsletter

Prayer Requests
  • For the next step in my life. Please pray for me as I look for a job.
  • A dear friend of mine back in Kazakhstan, Veronica, the little girl who came over to my apartment when her grandma came to cook has fallen terribly ill. Please pray for her, her mom, and her grandma, Luba. This is such a beautiful family!

Thru your Faith Promise Giving we are able to support Christina Crim.

Schools are waiting for Churches to Step Up goodnews
and Offer Good News Club in their Schools!!!!!

I remember 20 years ago when we tried to get the schools to allow the churches to offer the Good News Club in our local elementary schools. Time and time again, the door was clearly closed until now. Now there is a waiting lists of schools who want to be able to offer the Good News Club but they cannot find a church who is willing to step up and commit!

Currently, we are hosting the Good News Club at Beaver Ridge Elementary. Stripling Elementary School, which is also in our school cluster, is ready to have the GNC offered at their school as well!  We would love to be able to send a team to Stripling on Thursday afternoons from 2PM - 4:45PM and Beaver Ridge Elementary Wednesday's from 2:30 - 4:30PM.

Testimony from Merrily Lake who serves on our Beaver Ridge Good News Club Team.

It has been my extreme joy to work with the Good News Club at Beaver Ridge Elementary this year. Every Wednesday afternoon, after school, a group of us from NFUMC teaches a group of children ranging from kindergarten age to fifth grade. This is a program sponsored by Child Evangelism that gives us the freedom to go into public schools and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. The kids are all excited every week when we see them and can hardly wait to begin the program. Of course, they have snacks first which contributes to the excitement. We have small group time at the beginning where the children quote their memory verses and write out their praise and prayer requests.  They place these requests in a can labeled "God Can." Last week a child asked me if she could talk to me privately. She said her mom wanted us to pray about a certain situation in their home. It was my privilege to pray for her right there in the hallway of a public school. She also wrote the request down and put it in the "God Can."

I look forward to being with these kids and my co-workers every week. It is such an opportunity to reach children for Christ and to love them and pray for them. I am thankful God opened this door for us at this school. Hopefully, the door will be opened at other schools in our area. We need to reach children with the
Good News of Jesus Christ while we still have the time. "I must work the works of Him who sent me while it is day. The night cometh when no man can work." John 9:4

The Fall Festival was very exciting to be a part of this year. We had a
Good News Club table setup where the children could do crafts that explained the plan of salvation. The children who came to the table where I was working made a bracelet with different color beads on it. Each color demonstrated a different aspect of the plan of salvation and how to give your life to Christ. It was a wonderful evening as many, many kids made bracelets and heard the GoodNews message of Jesus and His love for them. All I could say at the end of the evening was "praise God for such an opportunity."

Training and curriculum is provided but we are waiting on volunteers to serve in this ministry.
