Daniela Borruel earned Century Conference Female Athlete of The Year in the Lancers first year in the Century Conference. She has had an amazing career and earned 2 Time Player of The Year, 2 Time OC Player of the Year, 2 CIF Titles, 2 CIF Finalist, 3 League MVPs, 3 Individual League MVPs, 3 Team League Championships and is headed to USC for Tennis! A great player and an even better person!

MARCH
The swim team started their league season with a win over Crean Lutheran for both the boys' and girls' teams. During the preseason, the girls' team went undefeated, securing victories over Troy, La Serna, and Chino Hills. The boys finished the preseason with a 2–1 record, with their only loss coming against Troy. The swim team will face their toughest opponent, Brea Olinda, on April 8.
APRIL
The swim team concluded their season at El Dorado High School to compete in the Freeway League finals. Our boys JV and boys varsity finished in second place overall. Open boys and girls, JV girls, and varsity girls were all league champions. This is the seventh consecutive league championship for the varsity girls. Every relay qualified for CIF. Three girls and eight boys qualified for individual events. Stay Tuned for the May highlights!
MAY
The girls swim team competed in Division 1 CIF, and the boys swim team competed in Division 3 CIF. Both teams had outstanding performances! The boys CIF team included David Kim, Cheney Mo, Miles Kim, Liam Weinreich, Troy Jung, Casey Shin, James Sy, and Rohan Parker. Cheney, Liam, David, Rohan, James, and Miles advanced to CIF Finals. The 200 Medley Relay team, made up of Cheney, Liam, Miles, and David, won 1st place in the finals, earning Sunny Hills its first CIF relay title since 1973. They also broke the school record in this event. The boys team placed 4th overall in CIF. The girls CIF team featured Isabella Zia, Claire Yoo, Cayenne Bagnol, Eveline Grannis, Mia Carley, Jessica Luna, and Caelyn Feetham. The 200 Freestyle Relay team, consisting of Mia, Eveline, Isabella, and Caelyn, broke the Sunny Hills record during prelims. Mia and Eveline qualified for CIF Finals, and Eveline also qualified for CIF State in the 500 Freestyle.

MARCH
The varsity boys golf team finished the month of March undefeated and are currently sitting at a perfect 8-0 record. Some big wins that came in March were against league-rivals Crean Lutheran and Yorba Linda. However, the biggest wins came against Trinity League power, Mater Dei and top-ranked La Serna. In the latest CIF polls, the Lancers are ranked 4th in the entire CIF Southern Section. Great work boys.
APRIL
April saw both Varsity and JV go undefeated in league play and secure undefeated Crestview League Championships. This is Varsity’s 21st consecutive league championship! Cole Kim was also crowned the 2025 Crestview League MVP, shooting a 2-day score of -9 at League Prelims & League Finals at Recreation Park 18 in Long Beach. Caleb Kim, Jonathan Jeon, Troy Kwon, and Felipe Jikal earned 1st Team All Crestview League. Dylan Lee earned 2nd team All Crestview League honors as well. All 6 qualified for the CIF Central Regional Individual Tournament on May 12. Good luck boys!
MAY
Cole Kim was crowned the Crestview League MVP, shooting rounds of -5 & -4 at League Prelims and Finals. Jonathan Jeon, Felipe Jikal, Caleb Kim, and Troy Kwon earned 1st Team All-League. Dylan Lee earned 2nd Team All-League. The boy’s team has also qualified for the SCGA SoCal Regional State Qualifier on 5/29; one step away from the State Tournament at Poppy Hills GC at Pebble Beach. Caleb Kim and Cole Kim have also qualified as individuals for the SCGA SoCal Regional State Qualifier and they played great! It was a great season for Boys Golf!

Our Varsity (22-11) team clinched a first place finish tying with Canyon in the Crestview League (7-1) marking a 5th consecutive League title since the program's birth. Our JV team tied 3rd in league with an overall record (12-13-1) and Frosh tied for 2nd in league with an overall record (16-10). 3 Varsity Lancers were selected on 1st Team All League with Seniors Augustine Cho, Seth Lee, and Junior Parker Mesnik. 2 Varsity Lancers were selected for 2nd Team All League: Seniors Lucas Saab and Matthew Barta. It was a fantastic season especially for our program stepping into a more competitive league.

GIRLS TRACK LEAGUE CHAMPS!

MARCH
Lancer Track & Field continued their season with several meets in March starting with the Fullerton City Meet against city rivals Troy HS & Fullerton HS. Over 60 athletes won medals with Madelyn Sooter (So) and Josef Hudak (So) earning athlete of the meet honors.
A week later we were back at Fullerton HS to take on Troy HS, La Habra HS, Don Lugo HS, and Segerstrom HS in a multi-dual meet under the rain. Newcomers Carlos Garibay (Fr), Evelyn Delgado (Fr), and Reagan Williams) splashed their way to victory. While returners Aaron Green (Jr), Josh Stewart (Jr), Natalie Park (So), and AJ Dorris (So) put in top performances.
We followed that with two invitational meets including one at Walnut HS, and the prestigious OC Championships. At Walnut, Sooter was back at it winning the 200m race and beating her own school record in the process. Standouts on the day included Travis McCovery (So), Kaila Ego (So), Ashley Kang (So), and Abby Paguyo (Fr). At OC Champs in Mission Viejo, Sooter recorded 3 top 10 finishes with Hudak taking home two top 10’s as well. Mia Gonzales (Jr) and Charlie Munoz (Fr) also recorded top 10 finishes in the 1600m race.
And finally on March 27th we kicked off the league season with a home meet against El Modena. 3 out of 4 levels claimed victory with Elias Vorathavorn (Jr), Chris Kim (So), Jake Ornelas (So), Marisa Thienprasiddi (So), Sydney Odipo (Fr), and Paolo Landa Mondragon (Fr) leading the way.
IAPRILL
Lancer Track & Field capped off an amazing season with Girls Varsity winning the league title for the first time in 19 years! Giselle Vargas (Sr), Mia Gonzales (Jr), Noelani Canotal (Jr), Kaila Ego (So), Madelyn Sooter (So), and Reagan Williams (Fr) all qualified for CIF Prelims as league champions and on the Boys side, Mohamad Ibrahim (Sr) also qualified by winning the Triple Jump competition. Boys F/S and Girls JV took 3rd place overall and Boys Varsity claimed 5th. It was a great season all-around with 7 school records broken in addition to many PR’s being set.
MAY
Eight athletes took part in CIF postseason activities including 7 members of our Girls team and Mohamad Ibrahim on the Boys side. Ibrahim finished off a great Senior season by competing in CIF Div. 1 Prelims, qualifying for Finals, and subsequently qualifying for the Masters Meet. He was the first boy to compete in the Masters Meet since 2016, truly an amazing end to his career on the Hill. Our Girls competed in multiple events at CIF Prelims in 95 degree weather and performed admirably (Giselle Vargas, Mia Gonzales, Noelani Canotal, Kaila Ego, Madelyn Sooter, and Reagan Williams). Six of the seven will return next year and provide an exciting foundation for the 2026 season.

Boys tennis finished up preseason going 4-1. The Lancers defeated several formidable opponents in preseason that included rivals Fullerton and Sonora. The Lancers won a big preseason match against Orange Lutheran by the score of 12-6 in their preseason finale. The boys tennis team now look ahead to playing in their league matches for the month of April. The Lancers have been led in singles by Senior, Richard Lu and by Freshman doubles duo Florenzo Tenazas and Julian Yoon. The Lancers look to keep on their winning ways in league.
Boys Tennis had a stellar month of April, climbing back up the standings in the Freeway League to win 2nd place for the year. The Lancers won 7 out of 8 matches in April, securing the 2nd spot in league. The Lancers had a great turnout at the League Finals, where seniors Richard Lu and Nathan Lee won Doubles MVPs for Sunny Hills. This is the 4th consecutive year Sunny Hills has won Doubles MVPs for boys tennis in the Freeway League. The Lancers had a terrific run in CIF beating Xavier Prep 12-6 in the 1st round and then beating Poly/Riverside 9-9 (73-66) in round 2. The Lancers ended the season losing to a tough Cate team in CIF Quarterfinals. With all things considered, boys tennis had a great year, winning 2nd place in league and advancing all the way to D3 CIF Quarterfinals.

CIF Playoffs have started March 31, 2025 with 3 Teams going into playoffs. SMASH Varsity Gold, League of Legends Varsity Gold, and Rocket League Varsity Gold will start round 1 of playoffs the week of March 31. Playoffs will be played for 2 weeks with the final Championship games played at Cal State Dominguez Hills on April 26.
Valorant Varsity Gold made the playoffs for HSEL Valorant Premier League. This is the top tier league for HSEL and the first year that Valorant Varsity Gold qualified to play. Congrats to SHHS Valorant Gold for their #1 place in the City of STEM Esports Invitational! Huge win for players Nathaniel, Alex, Austin, Travis, RJ, and Lucas! They’ll be facing the same team from the championship match, Downey High School, tomorrow in the semi-finals for HSEL West Region and a spot at Nationals.
Valorant JV Black is in regular season with HSEL Spring Majors currently ranking 3rd in the West Coast division.

Baseball ended the year on a high note winning 3 straight league games including a series clinching victory against Troy (8-7) and a sweep of Esperanza (6-3 & 9-3). In that 3 game stretch the Lancers were led by a trio of standout players. Andre Katayama contributed both at the plate and on the mound. At the plate he was 8-11 with 2RBI and 6 Runs scored. On the mound he pitched 9.2 Innings allowing 1 earned run, while striking out 13 and picking up 2 wins. Mateo Ramirez was huge at the plate going 6-8 with 7 RBI and 3 Runs scored, and 2 of his 6 hits were home runs. Finally Oliver Botch pitched in relief twice and picked up 2 saves. In total he pitched 4.1 Innings, allowed 0 earned runs and struck out 7 batters.

Lancer Varsity Softball finished the month of March with an overall winning record. The Lancers went 5-4 with wins over Yorba Linda HS, Warren HS, Norwalk HS, Sonora HS, and Garden Grove HS. Elayna Marquez (Jr) led the team in March with a .548 batting average in 31 at-bats, 17 hits, 9 singles, 8 doubles, 10 runs, and 7 RBIs. Arianna (Samaya) Holguin (Jr) was another key player for the Lancers with a .467 batting average in 30 at-bats, 14 hits, 9 singles, 4 doubles, 1 home run, 7 runs, and 1 stolen base. Some other notable players include Sammy Apolinar (Jr) with a .385 batting average, with 10 hits and 10 RBIs, and Sam Castillo (Sr) earning her starting spot, with a .444 batting average and 3 RBIs. The battery for the Lancers, catcher Riley Gonzalez (Sr) and pitcher Alexis Perez (Sr) have worked together to keep the defense sharp. Perez with 39 innings pitched, 3.41 ERA, and 36 strikeouts during March.
The softball team ended the season with an overall 9-14 record. Pitcher #13 Alexis Perez (12) threw a season high of 106.1 innings for Lancers, starting in 15 out of 23 games facing 479 batters and finishing the season with a 3.48 ERA. Shortstop #34 Samaya Holguin (11) held it down for the Lancers defensively. Holguin started at shortstop and as the leadoff batter in every single game, finished with a .385 batting average and led the team with a .965 fielding percentage. Third baseman #44 Elayna Marquez (11) continued to have a hot bat as she batted .421 in the month of April and finished the season with an overall.444 batting average and .481 on base percentage. Marquez led the team in almost every offensive category with 32 hits, 19 singles, 10 doubles, 3 HR, 16 RBIs and 18 runs scored. Alexis, Samaya, and Elayna each earned themselves spots on the All-Freeway League teams.

Scholar Athlete of The Year Karina Saab!
Karina is a 2 sport varsity athlete in Girls Tennis & Girls Volleyball, who has the highest GPA of our female student athletes in the school! Karina excelled in Girls Volleyball & Tennis, earning league championships with both teams in the Fall season!
Karina went to the playoffs in both sports. Karina & her sister Hannah finished 3rd in league finals for tennis! Karina also earned CIF Southern Section Athlete of the Year Award.

Nathaniel is a 2 sport varsity athlete in cross country & Track, who has the highest GPA of our male student athletes in the school! Nathaniel excelled in cross country and Track, qualifying for League finals in the 800 & 3200m. Nathaniel also earned CIF Southern Section Athlete of the Year Award.

In our inaugural year of LEAD, our Student-Athlete Leadership Training (SALT), we were able to meet almost monthly and develop our student-athlete leaders on campus Coach Byun did a great job investing in our students and developing them to lead in their respective programs. We definitely were able to see the fruit of investing in our bright students.

Boys Golf - recognized Coach Enrico, Caleb Kim and Cole Kim for their outstanding seasons and qualifying for the CIF Individual Championships. Boys Golf finished 10th at the CIF D1 Team Championships, 4th at the SCGA Qualifer, which qualified them for the SCGA SoCal Regional State Qualifier, for team and Caleb and Cole as individuals.
