Dear Friends,

A happy and blessed Easter Season to all! This is the Fourth Sunday of Easter. We are now officially on our Summer Mass Schedule so there is NO 5PM Sunday Night Mass until the weekend after Labor Day. Please make note of this change as you plan your weekend activities.

Thursday, 05 May, is the National Day of Prayer. Please consider joining Christians from the Chapin area for a special prayer event, "Exalt the Lord", at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church at 6:30PM. Please see the flyer and program for this event HERE for more information.

This Sunday is Mother's Day. We will offer a blessing for all our moms at the end of Mass and members of the Men's Club will be giving every mom a carnation after Mass.

This weekend we kick off the annual BirthRight Baby Bottle Campaign. Baby Bottles will be available in the bassinet in the Narthex for you to take home and fill with loose change, dollar bills or checks (Write checks to Our Lady of the Lake and Baby Bottle in the memo line). Please return the bottle with your gift no later than Father's Day weekend!

The Men’s Club 2022 Scholarship Committee has awarded the following scholarships to those students showing spiritual growth and community leadership here at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and within the Chapin community.  We are joyful in announcing this year's winners of the three 2-year $1500 scholarships: Nicole Curtis, Grace Hankins and Maggie Vernau. The Men's Club scholarship committee also handles the Deeds and Need Scholarship from an anonymous donor and this year's recipient is MacKenzie Hrica; a one-time $2,000 scholarship. Please help us congratulate these college bound students and continue to pray for their educational and spiritual development. (Please take note of the banners in the Narthex showing where some of our Graduating Seniors are headed to college this Fall.)

This week is a First Friday and First Saturday. I will hear confessions on both days from 10:00AM until 11:30AM and have Mass at 12 Noon. We will bless water and salt on Friday. Please bring worthy containers of water and salt to be blessed. Worthy containers are used only for holding Holy Water and Blessed Salt and should not be an ordinary household container.

Now is the time to sign up for TOTUS TUUS! See the flyer and register HERE.

One of the biggest events of our Parish Calendar is returning after a two year lapse due to Covid. The Annual Parish Yard Sale sponsored by the Women's and Men's Clubs to support their ministries and annual scholarships is scheduled to start receiving donated items on 04 May 2022. The tag sale itself is scheduled for 25 June 2022. See the flyer HERE!

It is not too late to make a pledge or gift to the 2022 Bishop's Annual Appeal (BAA). OLL parishioners have given $45,529.50 and pledged an additional $18,235 toward our parish goal of $55,441 for this year's BAA. We are at 82.12% of our goal in cash gifts! 20.70% of parishioners have made a cash gift or pledge. Thank you!!! All gifts serve as a sign of gratitude to God and are welcomed and appreciated. NOTES OF IMPORTANCE FROM
THE DIOCESE

Welcome Bishop-elect
Jacques Fabre-Jeune, CS!

Read more about our new Bishop HERE.

Installation on 13 May 2022.

Watch Bishop Jacques' Ordination and Installation as our new bishop:

Coat of arms of Bishop-elect Jacques Fabre-Jeune

Bishop-elect Jacques Fabre-Jeune, CS, has finalized the design of his official coat of arms, and an image is attached. It features the royal palm of Haiti, the colors of the flag of the Republic of Haiti, the gold crown of the Scalabrinian order, a phoenix rising from the ashes, and a green butterfly, a symbol of migration.

The motto Bishop Fabre-Jeune chose is taken from Matthew 24:40: "Whatever you do to the least of my children, you do to me." This emphasizes our call to lovingly serve all those in our lives who are most in need of our help and support.

News from Daughters of St. Paul

It is with sadness that I announce that the Pauline Books & Media in downtown Charleston will be closing in January of 2023. Please read the attached letter from Pauline Sister Donald Maria Lynch, provincial supervisor, for an update on the order's mission.

We thank the Daughters of St. Paul for their many years of devoted service to the Charleston community. Let us pray for their continued success as they renew their mission to serve Catholic communities in America.

IMPORTANT UPDATE on COVID-19 PROTOCOLS at OLL!

The Diocese has removed ALL Covid-19 Protocols except for the restriction on receiving the Precious Blood of Christ at Mass. The choice to wear or not wear a mask at Mass is now up to each individual. For the time being masks will still be provided in the narthex. The Sign of Peace will be restored at all Masses. I am asking that shaking hands, hugging, or kissing be reserved to immediate family members only. Please continue to smile and wave to non-family members around you in the pews rather than extending your hand for the Sign of Peace. Ordinary and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion will no longer be stopping to sanitize their hands during the distribution of Holy Communion. (They will continue to sanitize their hands prior to distributing Holy Communion!) Additional adjustments (Collection Basket, Music at the 8AM Mass, etc.) will be discussed and implemented in the near future.

Bishop Guglielmone's letter for those seeking a religious exemption from Covid vaccine mandates is available HERE. A letter from a parish priest is not needed.

Please review HOW to receive Holy Communion properly on the tongue or in the hand HERE.
We live stream the Sunday 10:30AM Mass using BOXCAST and FACEBOOK-LIVE. Links are also provided on our parish web site and in the Weekly Reminder.

Note: BOXCAST has the best streaming!

Prayer of Spiritual Communion:
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly
to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen
