Innovative Fire Tools in Action: Helitorch Supports Vegetation Management Project

Recently, CAL FIRE’s Tuolumne‑Calaveras Unit conducted the Whittle Vegetation Management Project, utilizing a helitorch to safely and efficiently ignite targeted areas. The aerial ignition tool allowed crews to treat steep and inaccessible terrain, improving the overall effectiveness of the fuel‑reduction effort. This project supports long‑term wildfire mitigation by reducing hazardous vegetation and strengthening community resilience across the region.

The Tiny Beetle Damaging Trees Across Southern California

The Goldspotted Oak Borer (GSOB) is an invasive pest quietly damaging oak trees across Southern California. It spreads quietly, and by the time trees show signs of damage, it’s often too late. The GSOB Blitz is a community effort where people like you help spot and report signs of the beetle while you’re out in nature. Your observations can help experts track the spread and protect healthy forests. If you hike, camp, or spend time outdoors in Southern California, you can be a part of the solution and help save California’s oaks.

Training Above the Flames: Boggs Helitack Crew at Work

On this day, the Boggs crew, based in Lake County, was training on scenarios for crew deployments, fire-line construction, hover steps, coordinating water drops as well as passenger and cargo transport.

Light up the Holiday, Not the Landscape

Don’t spark a wildfire this Fourth of July. In some areas of California, all fireworks are illegal. Protect your community with a responsible and fire-safe celebration. Remember fireworks spark fires: Check your local laws and ordinances to find out if fireworks are legal where you live, or if certain “Safe and Sane” fireworks are permitted.

Celebrate the 4th Safely: Don't Buy Illegal Firework

Celebrate the Fourth of July safely. Buy Safe and Sane fireworks only from licensed California booths. Your purchase supports local youth groups, nonprofits, and community organizations. Illegal fireworks are dangerous, unlawful, and may fund criminal activity. Every legal firework has the California Office of the State Fire Marshal seal. No seal, not legal. Report illegal fireworks sales to your local police or fire department. Safety starts with all of us.
