Why Is The Village Hall Phone Ringing? |

What are the Village Hall holiday hours? Village Hall and Police Administration will be closed Monday, July 5, 2021. Regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. In the event of an emergency, please call 911.
What is the deadline to apply for the vacant Village Trustee position? The Village Board has announced its intent to appoint a Trustee to fill the vacancy created by the recent appointment of Kevin Buckley to the office of Village President. 4th of July Parade Route: |

The Fourth of July parade route is going to look a little different this year. To allow for people to spread out and gather safely, the Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation has elongated the parade route.
Whitefish Bay’s Fourth of July parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. and travels from Kent Ave. & Silver Spring Dr., east to Silver Spring Dr. & Marlborough Dr., south to Marlborough Dr. & Chateau Pl., ending at the northeast corner of Cahill Park. We anticipate the parade ending at 1:00 p.m. Please note: For the sake of safety, candy will not be distributed during the parade this year.

4th of July Rules and Reminders: |

As in past years, the following rules are in place for the Fourth of July festivities:
- Chairs and blankets cannot be placed along the parade route and Klode Park until 6:00 a.m. on July 4th.
- During the parade, please keep children at the curb on the parade route. There are moving vehicles / large floats that can severely injure a child running into the street.
- Picnic tables cannot be removed from the picnic area.
- Please note that tablecloths do not “hold” a table.
- If during the day you wish to put up large umbrellas, awnings or tents, please put them toward the side of the park. Come fireworks time, please take the awnings, umbrellas and tents down.
- Rule for personal fireworks: If it flies, if it explodes, if it causes fire on ignition or sustains fire, it’s illegal. Enjoy the Sendik’s fireworks show at the park! Leave it to the professionals and be considerate of your neighbors.

4th of July Volunteers Needed: |
|
The July Fourth Kids Games at Klode Park can’t happen without your help! Please sign up with a friend or family member for a 1.5 hour shift to run a game. More details are included in the link below. This is an easy and fun way to give back to your community.
Each game will need two volunteers per shift. Kids ages 10+ can volunteer with an adult and be counted as the second volunteer. Younger children are welcome to join you but would not be counted as a volunteer and should not be "signed up".

Whitefish Bay Receives Comprehensive Annual Financial Report Award:
For the second year in a row, the Village of Whitefish Bay received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment.
Whitefish Bay Finance Director Jaimie Krueger stated, "It is an honor to receive the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report award. Financial reporting plays a major role in fulfilling our commitment of education and accountability to our residents and taxpayers.” Click here to view the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
Only 60 municipalities statewide received the award putting Whitefish Bay among the top six percent of its peers for excellence in financial reporting. An impartial panel judged the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users to read the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

Board of Appeals Vacancy: The Village of Whitefish Bay is accepting applications from citizens who are interested in volunteering to serve on the Board of Appeals. The Board of Appeals reviews requests for zoning code variances (including fence heights and setback issues) in addition to appeals of administrative decisions made by Village officials. The Board of Appeals meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:15 p.m. Click here to fill out an application. Please email Village Manager Paul Boening with questions. |

Brush Chipper Collection: Brush will next be collected by Village crews this week (June 28, 2021). Brush should be placed in the parkway between the curb and the sidewalk at the beginning of week. It should not obstruct the sidewalk or be placed in the street. The chipper typically runs Wednesdays and Thursdays starting on the north end of Village (bi-weekly), but there is no set schedule. |

Village Band Concert at Klode Park: Come celebrate an old fashioned Fourth of July band concert in the park with the Village Band of Whitefish Bay on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at 7:00 p.m., at Klode Park. Bring your chair(s) to enjoy music that celebrates our country played by your neighbors. |

First Thursdays…Sip, Shop, & Support Local: Join us on Silver Spring Drive on July 1, the first Thursday of the month, for a few extra hours of shopping (and sipping!). Whitefish Bay Art Festival: The Merchants of Whitefish Bay are happy to announce that the Whitefish Bay Art Festival is back for 2021, Saturday, July 10, and Sunday, July 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. The WFB Art Festival will take place in the downtown area of Silver Spring Drive.
Free and open to the public, the Whitefish Bay Art Fest will showcase the work of about 100 juried artists in a variety of mediums.

Sidewalk Sale: Shop on the Street Friday, July 16, and Saturday, July 17,
This annual event kicks off with businesses opening early and bringing some of their goods out on the street to create a fun environment for shoppers.
On Saturday, the sales continue throughout the day and, at Berkeley Boulevard, the street will be closed and the Merchants of Whitefish Bay along with Yellow Wood will set up a fun ‘Kids Adventure Zone,’ complete with a climbing wall and more.

Whitefish Bay Public Library Summer Hours:
- Mondays to Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Fridays to Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Sundays, Closed through Labor Day Weekend
Other changes to library services:
- Masks required only for those not fully vaccinated.
- Curbside service will no longer be offered.
- Non-pickup fee of items on hold, $1 per item will be reinstated.
- Inside book drops will be available.
- Study rooms are available. The smaller room has a 1-person maximum limit and the larger room has a 2-person maximum limit.
Summer Reading Program: Our Summer Reading Program has begun! Sign up online through Beanstack and experience this great program for all ages, full of opportunities for fun and learning. You can register online or you can also use the Beanstack app. Download the Beanstack app and search for Whitefish Bay Public Library. The program runs through August 20.
Teen Book Club, Tuesday, June 29, 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Open to those Entering Grades 7 to 12. Join us in School House Park to discuss the book Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger. Fall Prevention Tip of the Month from Milwaukee County Fall Prevention Coalition: Outdoor Fun Without Falls
Summer is a great time to be outside and active in Wisconsin as time spent outdoors can have significant health benefits. However, it is important to consider safety precautions related to time spent outdoors, as nearly 50% of falls among older adults occur outside.
Practical Tips:
- Be aware of your surroundings, particularly any changes in surface or elevation. Try to take a more level path when able.
- Make sure to use good footwear! Shoes with a slip-resistant sole, full back, and low heel are ideal for walking outside.
- Make sure to have sunglasses to maintain vision in sunny conditions and ensure adequate lighting in the early morning and evenings. Take some time to let your eyes adjust to changing light situations upon entering or exiting a room or building before you begin to walk.
- Make sure to have plenty of water on-hand and take rest breaks as needed to manage fatigue.

Fall Prevention Class: NSHD is facilitating a Stepping On Fall Prevention Class from August 26 to October 7 at The Shul in Bayside. It is a 7-week course (2-hour session each week) and is open to those 60+ who live independently. Please call NSHD at 414-371-2980 to register.

What has the North Shore Health Department been working on? Our Public Health Nurses attended Lead Assessor training through the Wisconsin Department of Health Services this week in Green Bay. This training focuses on the practices and techniques that are critical for assessing the risk of lead exposure.
Our nurse supervisor, Kathleen Platt, has been named interim health officer. She has previously served as interim health officer and will lead our department as we continue the recruitment process for a new health officer.
NSHD held a COVID-19 vaccination clinic last week at another local company for its staff. Bringing clinics to the workplace makes vaccine more accessible. Please contact the NSHD if you are interested in having a vaccination clinic at your business.
In the coming weeks the NSHD will be attending local North Shore Farmers Markets. Please feel free to stop by and have a conversation with our representatives.
