Dear Families,

As we’ve committed to you, we strive to keep you well-informed and updated on the COVID-19 impact to the Pickering Manor Community. As you are aware, we have been strategically planning and preparing for the first case of COVID-19 within our resident or staff population.

Based on this commitment, we are alerting all of you that one of our employees has tested positive for COVID-19. Out of respect for this staff member and their family, along with patient privacy and HIPAA, we will only share with you the pertinent information you need to know while respecting the individual privacy of our employee. This person last worked on the 3-11 shift on 4/24. They report that throughout their shift, they did not remove their mask at any time while in the vicinity of residents or other staff members. We are actively monitoring our residents and staff members for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and have also notified the local and State Departments of Health.

The local Department of Health has reviewed and approved our protocols and have their own procedure for the follow-up of a positive case. They have begun the process of Contact Tracing. This employee reports not removing their mask in the presence of any staff or residents. We will continue to monitor for temperature upon entry and exit of the building and we’ve asked that staff relay any signs/symptoms to us they may experience. The temperature threshold is now 99 degrees.

We are continuing to comply with the standards of the Centers for Disease Control CDC and the local and State Departments of Health. We’ve asked staff that they continue to be vigilant with wearing masks, washing their hands frequently, practicing social distancing while at work and in the community, using proper hygiene etiquette with sneezing and coughing, and most of all, being mindful that their reporting may help save others from becoming exposed. We reminded everyone to not be ashamed, embarrassed or fear reporting of symptoms. This virus knows no boundaries. But we will also implore and remind all that are our employees are essential and must stringently practice those directives listed above.

We are grateful to all of you and for the incredible support you give us each and every day. To be 13 weeks into this pandemic and to have no positive cases until now is remarkable. We need you, our staff and our residents to remain healthy!

If you have any questions at all, please reach out to me, Terry Ziegler or Jacqui Bentivoglio. We have and will continue to be honest and forthcoming with any information we have.

With peace and gratitude,

Michelle
