Congratulations to our 2026 Coaches for Character CHAMP award winners, Grace Smith '26 and Selena Owens '26. Thank you Mr. Orr for leading this process for us at Academic Magnet.
The CHAMP Awards program is a partnership between Coaches for Character and Charleston County School District to recognize "students who have done a lot of great things, overcome odds, exemplified character, made good grades, achieved amazing things but were never recognized." It is an annual event that honors 70 Charleston County students. Two students are chosen from every eighth grade and twelfth grade. The award is designed to honor true "Unsung Heroes." The nomination process, managed by Charleston County school counselors, focuses on identifying and selecting students who often go unnoticed, even though they have accomplished wonderful things in their community, church, home, or school. Their selection is based on character, community service, academic effort, and overcoming odds.

| | Register a Team for Soccer Tournament on June 6 | |
| |
Raptors, please consider registering a team for the Chuck Dennis Memorial 5v5 Soccer Tournament. It’s a great chance to come together with the Charleston soccer community for a fun day, healthy competition, and a meaningful cause. Play for a purpose and help create opportunities for young athletes through soccer scholarships generated from the tournament. All athletes will receive free tickets to the Charleston Battery match on June 6. Division winners are recognized during half time of the Charleston Battery. Grab your teammates and be part of it: register, volunteer, or donate at charlesdennisfoundation.org.
Volunteer Opportunities: Help is needed in the concession stand and the event is also looking for a field marshal. A field marshal's simple job involves receiving a scorecard from the scorekeeper, taking it to the referee on the field and returning it to the scorekeeper after the game. Here is a link to their Sign Up Genius.

Check out this local summer opportunity for AMHS Math Students: the 2026 Math Research Experience for Lowcountry High School Students and Teachers. It will be held July 20-24 at The Citadel. Students will solve math problems in groups of three with a teacher and/or Citadel faculty mentor. Mr. Rappa was a teacher last year for the camp. Mrs. Renes attended final presentations. They are seeking students excited about math with a background in algebra (or more).
If interested, you must apply. See this flyer and the website for more information. Many AMHS students have been attending this experience the last few years and have had very positive experiences.
