An academic bilingual community fostering global citizenship
5-14-20

Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community,

I hope this communication finds you and your family healthy and well. I've participated in several Morning Meetings over the past week, and I have enjoyed seeing our children connecting with our teachers and staff members. I am so grateful for the many efforts to maintain community and learning on behalf of our children.

As I shared last Friday, we will not be sharing student progress through the traditional report card this spring. You will receive summary statements of content taught, and our classroom teachers look forward to connecting with each family about their children at the end of the year. If you have not already done so, please fill out  this  form to indicate how you would like to receive this information by the end of the day tomorrow.

Thanks for your patience this week as our staff members have been closing their physical classrooms and placing students' materials in boxes with their names on them. Our intention is to limit the amount of times that families need to come to school. On June 2-4, we are asking each family to drive to the bus loading area on the North side of our school. Staying in their cars, families will return school books, materials, library books, and instruments. At the same time, a staff member will bring out the box containing the children's materials that were left in school, as well as yearbooks, important papers, etc. Lost and Found will be located at the "Kiss and Ride" during those days, also. To limit the amount of time that families need to wait, we have divided the alphabet by last name. If you are unable to come to school on your designated day, you can choose a different day during June 2-4.
  • Tuesday, June 2nd from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.: Last names starting with A-H
  • Wednesday, June 3rd from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.: Last names starting with I-P
  • Thursday, June 4th from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.: Last names starting with Q-Z

"Coffee with Corey" will be held again this Friday from 8:30-9:15 a.m. Please log in at any time by clicking  here  if you would like to connect about anything. Additionally, feel free to call or e-mail me.

Take care, and have a great week.

Sincerely,

Corey

P.S. Please remember to give yourselves grace during these challenging times.

Students to Keep Devices this Summer
There are still a few weeks left of school. Please contact PSI's Media Specialist, Sra. VanDeWalker ( [email protected] ) with questions or help with your child's home devices through the last day of school, June 4.

St. Louis Park Public Schools has decided that families who received a district Chrome book, iPad and/or mobile hotspot for distance learning this spring will be able to keep these devices over the summer.

This decision was reached after consideration of the needs of students participating in academic summer school and the uncertainty of school startup this fall.  Students and families who currently have a school district device will not need to do anything further in order to keep the device over the summer.  Students and families should be aware that content filtering will continue to be applied on the devices throughout the summer. Students keeping the distance learning device over the summer are encouraged to use them to further their learning on their own.

If students experience technical difficulties with their assigned devices after the end of the 2019-2020 school year, support will be provided through the following:
  • Family Distance Learning Technology Support - Students and families can call 952-928-6056 to leave a message or send an email to [email protected] The messages will be monitored between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm Monday through Friday. If a message is left after 4 pm, it will be received by technical support staff the next business day.

If a student or family does not wish to keep their assigned device over the summer, please bring the device when you're dropping off library books and instruments on the designated date/time the last week of school.
PSI School Social Worker and School Counselor REFERRALS and,
Practicing Resilience in Community from MCCC!
Minnesota Communities Caring for Children (MCCC) invites you to join them in a
30-minute, family-friendly practice of resilience on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. on Zoom by clicking HERE .

We are living in a particularly stressful moment in global history, and research shows us that there are simple daily practices that can help us self-regulate and support each other. Each day we will practice some tool for calming our nervous system and integrating all the parts of our brain so we can be at our best in the challenges that we face. We will gather in community and share strengths from many cultures. No pre-registration required! Just join any day you are available.

As a reminder, we are available to provide support with basic needs, social and emotional help, and community resources. Please reach out by completing this form or emailing one of us. We will follow up with you and/or your student.

Support the SLP High School Seniors
The St. Louis Park Public Schools Foundation is launching a community-wide effort to celebrate our seniors. Show your Park Pride for the class of 2020 by planting a lawn sign in your front yard for all to see!

Visit  www.slppsf.org  to order a sign!

The Class of 2020 will finish its senior year at home, instead of cruising the halls with friends, attending prom, starring in one final performance or playing in one last game.
Your donation will help fund future innovative classroom grants for St. Louis Park students for years to come.
