It's the Final Countdown for the End of the School Year!

AMHS Senior is the Only Student in Tri-county Area to Receive a $2,5000 National Merit Scholarship

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the winners of the National Merit $2,500 Scholarship for the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program last week, and the only student from Charleston County School District (CCSD) and the Tri-county area to receive one was Academic Magnet High School’s Jack Oakman '25. He is one of just 35 students from South Carolina to earn an National Merit $2,500 Scholarship this year.


According to NMSC, the 2,500 winners in the 70th annual program are the finalists in each state that are judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Read the full news release at this link.

The AMHS Class of 2028 is taking shape! Registration is now open for Summer Scholars for ALL new students from July 28-July 30! It's a fun few days that will provide an opportunity to meet other students and learn more about the year ahead! Click the image to sign up.

Mandated by the state, a School Improvement Council (SIC) serves as a vehicle for teachers, students, parents, administrators, and community representatives to collaborate and help schools across South Carolina reach the goals identified in their five-year school improvement plans (SIPs). The SIC Report for 2024-2025 is now available and has been posted on the AMHS website. Read it at this link.

Time to Vote for the 2025-26 PIE Officer Slate

The proposed slate of officers is now available from the Nominating Committee. Each member of PIE may cast one vote. No response will be counted as a "YES."

Read Important Information About End-of-Course exams

The statewide End-of-Course Examination Program (EOCEP) assessment will occur May 1-7 and May 19-22 for students enrolled in Algebra 1, Biology 1, English 2, and/or United States History and the Constitution. The EOCEP encourages instruction in the specific standards for the courses, inspires student achievement, and documents the level of students’ mastery of the academic standards.

AMHS student Nikki Wu won 1st Place and Best in Show at the South Carolina Art Education Association Youth Art Month State level for 2025 for her digital artwork "Saccharine Overflow."


NASA 'Plant the Moon Challenge' Team Wins International Competition

A hearty congratulations to Ms. Desbrow and her NASA Plant the Moon Challenge team, who won the international competition last week (5/7) in one of four possible high school categories, "evaluation of results." Ms. Desbrow's team was featured on the international webinar and will have their paper published on the international Plant the Moon Challenge website. They beat countries like South Korea, India, the Netherlands, among many others, and all 50 US states in our category and will go on to compete at the U.S. Southeast symposium later this month.

The Inspirit AI summer program empowers young students to collaborate on AI projects with Ivy League mentors to tackle pressing real-world challenges from disease diagnosis, to exoplanet research, and supporting disaster-management. Please apply here for summer 2025!

The Meeting Street Scholarship Fund provides up to $10,000 per year in college scholarships for high-achieving South Carolina students with a demonstrated financial need (who will be attending an eligible South Carolina college/university).

We're accepting scholarship applications for the 2024-25 school year from January - May. Apply now at this link.

Community Service + Activities

Ms. McCall and Ms. Krupilis regularly post opportunities for service on students' Canvas page and those are also sometimes shared on AMHS social media accounts. Students are encouraged to find opportunities for service in their own communities. Additional opportunties that are shared with the Raptor Report are listed below.

The Raptor Report is published weekly by AMHS PIE on Wednesdays during the school year except for holiday breaks.



Faculty, students, and parents are encouraged to submit articles and/or pictures of AMHS events, honors, and needs.
