Governor DeSantis Signs School
Choice Bill at Christ the King Catholic School
|
|
Surrounded by students, parents and elected officials on Tuesday, May 11, Governor Ron DeSantis signed into legislation HB7045 expanding scholarship eligibility for families and prioritizing military, foster and adopted students. The new legislation will make it affordable for all families to send their children to Catholic school.
The bill combines three existing voucher programs, Gardiner and McKay which provide vouchers for students with disabilities and a third that assists low-income families, into one program under Step Up for Students. It also raises the income threshold to be eligible for vouchers from 260 percent of the federal poverty level to 375 percent, or from $68,900 for a family of four to $99,375.
Following is a list of students eligible as of July 1, 2021 and next steps to take NOW:
-
Students of families with higher income (i.e. nearly $100,000 for a family of 4) - APPLY NOW BY CLICKING HERE
-
Siblings of Gardiner Scholarship students - Sign up to be NOTIFIED WHEN YOU CAN APPLY by visiting our Legislative Update page here

All Scholarships will eventually be under Step Up Empowerment. Starting July 1st, all but McKay will go into either Empowerment for low income or Empowerment for special needs. Next fiscal year, McKay will convert to Empowerment for special needs.
