Maximize the Potential!

Dear Friend of CCSD93,

Messages from

Superintendent Hill

At CCSD93, we have a special peer-nominated recognition called the Distinguished Educator Award. It’s the highest honor a member of the CCSD93 team can receive. All staff members, regardless of position, are eligible.

Colleagues are invited to nominate CCSD93 staff members by submitting thorough evidence of how their nominee:

  • Demonstrates tremendous consideration for children and excellence in fulfillment of duties,
  • Has a positive effect on the school environment,
  • Inspires others,
  • And goes above and beyond what is expected of their role.

In the 2024-25 school year, CCSD93 received 20 nomination submissions for 16 individuals. Senior leaders judged the submissions against a rubric, and I am thrilled to share with you that the following five individuals were determined to meet the highest levels of the award’s criteria, being named CCSD93’s 2024-25 Distinguished Educators.

Pam Camposeo - CCSD93 Certified School Nurse

Mrs. Camposeo supports student health across CCSD93 with expertise and compassion. A Nationally Board Certified School Nurse, she improves systems districtwide, advocates for health equity and mentors peers. From shaping pandemic protocols to training others in emergency care, Pam’s leadership and care ensure every student receives safe, dignified support.

Betsy Flores - Stratford Dual Language ELA Teacher

Mrs. Flores empowers multilingual learners with creative, culturally accessible and engaging lessons that celebrate student identity and voice. She advocates for equity, creates multilingual family resources and supports student wellbeing. Beyond class, she coaches soccer, mentors colleagues and uplifts her school community with compassion and innovation.

Laura Gehrke - Roy DeShane 4th & 5th Grade Magnet Teacher

Mrs. Gehrke inspires gifted learners through high expectations, tailored support and deep personal connection. A calm, nurturing leader, she mentors peers, leads clubs and serves on district committees. Her classroom fosters joy in learning, and her dedication leaves a lasting impact on students, families and colleagues alike.

Karen Lee - Elementary Dual Language Instructional Coach

Mrs. Lee supports Dual Language students and educators across Cloverdale, Elsie Johnson and Roy DeShane. Her guidance enhances multilingual learning, ensures equitable support and bridges school cultures with empathy and expertise. Karen builds capacity through coaching, collaboration and joy, uplifting every student, teacher and team she touches.

Alyssa Pisano - Stratford 7th Grade Math Teacher

Ms. Pisano drives student success with personalized instruction, strong relationships and relentless positivity. She champions school culture, mentors peers and leads by example. Nicknamed by her colleagues as “Extra” for always going above and beyond, she supports academic growth with creativity, strategy and a heart for every learner.

As a result of this designation, each Distinguished Educator is being profiled on our social media accounts throughout this week and will receive recognition at the May 22, 2025 Board of Education meeting, a pin of recognition, an email tag graphic and a Friday afternoon off this year.

I was honored to be able to join their administrators to surprise these incredible educators with their awards! I invite you to watch the video below to see them receiving recognition. Please also take a moment to visit www.ccsd93.com/distinguished to read full profiles of how each winner has positively impacted their students and community.

The Drama's So Fetch at Jay Stream's Mean Girls Jr. Musical This Weekend!

Jay Stream Middle School is bringing Mean Girls Jr. to the stage this weekend! Students had a chance to preview the production during a dress rehearsal earlier this week, and the full cast and crew will showcase their talent and teamwork in performances tonight and tomorrow.

Jay Stream 6th Graders Make a Splash on Water Day!

Wednesday was Water Day at Jay Stream Middle School! Sixth graders dove into an all-day, in-house field trip filled with hands-on science and environmental education, in partnership with SCARCE Eco Education and the DuPage Water Commission.

Students rotated through engaging, interactive stations in the school’s STEM Wing, exploring important topics like storm drain pollution and water treatment, the journey of water from Lake Michigan to our taps, watershed simulations and plastic pollution, and conservation tools and actions they can take to help protect our water resources.

A big thank you to Carol Stream Mayor Frank Saverino and DuPage County Commissioner Jim Zay for kicking off the day with a special assembly, and to members of Carol Stream Public Works, SCARCE, engineer Nick Bartosz, and Jay Stream’s dedicated staff for delivering an immersive, impactful learning experience that brings science and social studies standards to life.

Penguins Take Flight at Heritage Lakes

Heritage Lakes recently hosted its annual 5th Grade Great Penguin Fling, an exciting engineering challenge where students designed, built, tested and refined devices to launch a small stuffed penguin as far as possible. It addressed critical engineering standards and offered a rare chance to watch these flightless birds soar!
