About Us - Impact100 Little Traverse Bay is a diverse group of women committed to improving our community by collectively funding high-impact grants to nonprofit organizations serving Emmet and Charlevoix Counties. The Impact100 model is simple, yet profound and designed for transformational and sustainable grant-making within communities, with a minimum grant size of $100,000. The annual $1,000 donation of each Impact100 Little Traverse Bay member is pooled together with the donations of other members, funding transformational grants of $100,000 or more.

Impact100 Little Traverse Bay are all volunteers with no paid staff, and 100% of each member’s annual contribution of $1,000 goes directly into the grant pool with no deductions for overhead or administrative costs. The number and size of grants awarded each year are dependent on our membership, which closes December 31. Our goal is to give multiple $100,000 grants annually.

The size of our membership and grant pool is announced in January at The Big Reveal Event, which kicks off our grants cycle. Nonprofit finalists are chosen through a competitive application process by grant committees in each of the five Focus Areas – Arts & Culture, Education, Family, Health & Wellness, and Environment. Finalists are announced in July at the Meet the Finalists Presentation. In August, the Finalists in each Focus Area present to the membership at our Annual Awards Dinner and grants are awarded to the Finalists with the most membership votes. Every woman who gives $1,000 or more for that grant cycle has one vote at this event.

JOIN US - We’re thrilled to announce that Wendy H. Steele will be the keynote speaker at our Launch Celebration on June 28, 2024 from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Bay Harbor Yacht Club Lange Ballroom. Come and meet the visionary woman who started the Impact100 movement more than 20 years ago! Bring your questions and find out how to join, get involved, sponsor us, or apply for a grant. RSVP is required by June 14th. Register here.

Otis Harbor Springs brings first-of-its-kind luxury to the storied resort town it calls home

Excerpted from Travel Daily News: In Michigan, going “Up North,” where idyllic small towns are surrounded by the natural beauty and pristine shores of Lake Michigan, is a summer ritual. Those who find themselves on the M-119 scenic route, also known as the famous Tunnel of Trees, emerge in Harbor Springs to find a hidden gem on the bluffs: Otis Harbor Springs, a meticulously restored and reimagined mid-century hotel with history stretching back nearly 100 years. Opening to reservations on May 31, the resort will come to life throughout the month of June, with outdoor-driven programming and cocktail service.

Originally settled by Chicago banker-turned-farmer Joseph E. Otis in the 20th century as the Birchwood Farm Estate, the farm land was transformed by new owners into an executive retreat in 1958, which eventually became the Birchwood Inn. The historic property has received a top-to-bottom renovation led by Israel Hernandez and Ty Humpert, honoring the rustic charm and pride of place, and ushering in a new era of service and design for this mid-century lodge. The team brings a brand-new vision to every inch of the property – from lush, layered interior spaces to the smallest of details, like custom designed furniture and a restoration to a native meadow landscape – creating a high-level hospitality experience not yet seen in the region.

“We’ve created this experience just as much for locals as for our out-of-town guests,” said Hernandez. “This is a very special place that has been part of the community for many decades, and we are honored to bring back this Northern Michigan mainstay for future generations.”

Otis Harbor Springs (website) is located at 7291 S Lake Shore Drive, just minutes away from Downtown Harbor Springs. Full article from Travel Daily News.

Farmers Market opens new season Saturday

By Hannah Bianchi, Harbor Springs Farmers Market Master

The wait is almost over! The Harbor Springs Farmers Market opens this Saturday, May 25th. Located right on Main Street in downtown Harbor Springs, the Farmers Market is an event you don’t want to miss. Along with fresh high quality food, patrons can also enjoy live music, youth educational programs, and additional community events.

This summer we have over 30 full-time vendors along with various Young Entrepreneurs and Guest Vendors. Our Market Pantry program will be returning, which means at least $100 of fresh produce and local products will be donated to local food pantries at the end of each day. Last year we donated over $5,000 of local foods, and we are hoping to make an even bigger impact this season. We are continuing to accept SNAP/EBT and Senior Project Fresh coupons and have also started our own Food Assistance program, LEAF - Local Foods Enrich a Family.

Although it’s still too early for fruits and vegetables like strawberries, tomatoes, and cucumbers, you can expect to find delicious crisp asparagus and lots of fresh greens. Lettuce mixes are especially delicious this time of year before the temperatures get warmer. You’ll also be able to stock up on fresh pasta, baked goods, cheese, jams, teas, and a plethora of beautiful flowers.

Our first Wednesday Market in June we will be hosting a Community Blood drive The drive will be held in the Community Center of Holy Childhood Church. Please visit our website or Facebook page for a link to sign up for a donation slot at the first drive Wednesday June 5th and again August 7th from 9am-1pm. You can also find information and sign ups at www.versiti.org

> The Harbor Springs Farmers Market is located right downtown on Main Street Saturdays, May 25-October 12, and Wednesdays, May 29-August 28, from 9am to 1pm. We hope to see you downtown Memorial Day Weekend. Meet you at the Market!

Students can register now for 'Timberwolves Thrive,' free college readiness summer program

North Central Michigan College announces the launch of Timberwolves Thrive, a free five-week summer program designed to help students build confidence, sharpen study strategies, and be college-ready by Fall 2024.

Timberwolves Thrive offers a comprehensive support system that includes breakfast and lunch provided daily, transportation assistance (up to $175 in gas cards or bus fare), a stipend of up to $25 per day, and all program materials, textbooks, and laptops. Students who finish the program and enroll and attend fall classes at NCMC get to keep the laptop.

“Timberwolves Thrive will provide students with access to important support services, guidance on financial aid, opportunities to strengthen English and math competencies, and access to essential learning materials,” said NCMC Vice President of Student Affairs Renee DeYoung.

The program is open to all new-to-college students who have earned a high school diploma or GED — from recent high school graduates to adult learners — regardless of which Michigan college they plan to attend. However, students who have earned college-level credit for math or English are not eligible for the program.

Michigan’s FY2023 budget allocated $10 million for academic catch-up programs like Timberwolves Thrive. Administered by the Michigan Community College Association, the initiative supports community colleges’ efforts to combat learning loss among recent high school graduates, whose in-person learning was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Timberwolves Thrive runs July 15- August 15, Mondays through Thursdays, from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at NCMC’s Gaylord Center (620 E. 5th Street, Gaylord). July 10th Art Show welcomes Birchwood Farms Golf & Country Club as Premier Sponsor

The organizers of the July 10th Art Show at Nub’s Nob Resort have announced that Birchwood Farms Golf & Country Club has come aboard as their Premier Sponsor. The Art Show is organized by the Harbor Springs Area Chamber and the Northern Michigan Women's Club.

“It’s a great match to have Birchwood Farms, one of the premier country clubs in the region, joining us to sponsor one of the premier art shows in Northern Michigan,” said Chamber Executive Director Bonnie Kulp.

The chamber and the Women’s Club teamed up to restart the Art Show in 2023, after a three-year pandemic hiatus. Last year’s show was a major success, attracting 84 artists and hundreds of art lovers. More than 100 artists are expected this year, and very few booths remain for the July 10th show. Interested artists are encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible. To apply please click the following links:

The Art show runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 10th. Admission is a suggested donation of $5. Proceeds from the Art Show benefit the Harbor Springs Chamber and the many charitable organizations supported by the Northern Michigan Women's Club. Anyone with questions may contact Bonnie at the chamber, 231-526-7999, or email director@harborspringschamber.com.
