City Enlists Business Participation In New Program

July 1st, 2022 Tax Changes

As previously reported by IRMA, the State budget passed by the Illinois General Assembly in May 2022 contains several temporary changes to Illinois taxes effective July 1. Those changes include temporary suspension of the 1% state-imposed tax on grocery items and the annual increase in the motor fuel tax by the rate of inflation and those counties eligible to impose such a tax.
Additionally, there is a sales tax holiday for certain back-to-school items, clothing, and footwear with a sales price under $125; this applies to the 5% of the state's 6.25% base sales tax rate. Some local government units also initiated changes to their sales tax rates effective July 1, and are listed in the IDOR Tax Bulletins.

Sexual Harassment Amendments
On April 27, 2022, the Chicago City Council approved the Chicago Commission on Human Relations amendments to the City's sexual harassment laws, effective July 1, 2022. The basic changes mandate employers must have a written policy on sexual harassment, it must be posted, and training held for all employees annually.
