Breakfast Cereal Drive
June 8 - Benefit for Groveland Food Shelf
In conjunction with our celebratory Pentecost picnic on Sunday, June 8, we will be holding a breakfast cereal drive for the Groveland Emergency Food Shelf. While we celebrate, let's remember those who need food on a daily basis. Please bring a box or two of breakfast cereal, no Fruit Loops, to donate to Groveland. We will have marked bins where you can leave your cereal boxes. Our goal is to present Groveland with at least 100 boxes for their needy clients.

YOU’RE INVITED!
The Rev. Canon Dr. Stephanie Spellers
at Saint Mark’s Fontaine Series
MONDAY, JUNE 16 | 6:30 – 9 PM
Who is shaping the church of tomorrow?
We’re thrilled to welcome The Rev. Canon Dr. Stephanie Spellers – one of the Episcopal Church’s leading voices on 21st-century ministry and mission – for a night of honest conversation and shared vision. A longtime canon to Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and author of The Church Cracked Open and Radical Welcome, Canon Spellers brings deep wisdom and clarity to the spiritual shifts reshaping our time.
She’ll present her latest research into declining religious affiliation in America, along with stories from dozens of young “Nones” and “Dones” who grew up with no faith or left formal religion behind. Why are they passing on church? What spiritual pathways and communities are they creating instead? And how might their insights help shape the future of Christian community?
We’d love to see you there and encourage you to bring others! No cost, registration not necessary.
This event is part of the Fontaine series, which honors the preaching legacy of the Very Rev. H. Douglas Fontaine and seeks to enrich the spiritual life of Saint Mark’s.

Medgar & Myrlie: Medgar Evers and the Love Story That Awakened America by Joy-Ann Reid
Growing up I’d heard a lot about Martin Luther King JR and Malcolm X . All I knew about Medgar Evers I learned from the movie Mississippi Burning. Medgar Evers was what the great Black writer James Baldwin called the forgotten Civil Rights leader. Medgar and Myrlie’s story began in the 1950s when they met at Alcorn A&M college. Medgar’s love for Myrlie was rivaled only by his love for Mississippi. Reid shows Evers as working tirelessly to bring equality to the Black people in Mississippi. He organized boycotts of white-owned stores, worked to get schools desegregated, and get Blacks registered to vote. His wife Myrlie worked hand in hand with him while raising their three children. Medgar was on several assassination lists and yet wasn’t given the protection from the NAACP he deserved.

During this time, interns benefit from college and career coaching, receiving assistance with college applications and financial aid. The students have the opportunity to boost their professional skills, expand personal networks, and work with top companies. Gospel Based Discipleship
Fridays, 12:15 pm, online via Zoom
Gospel Based Discipleship is a weekly online meeting to read a passage of scripture and reflect on its meaning. There is no curriculum, no instructor. This is not a class, but a space for thought and reflection, a sort of "mini-retreat" from the week's busyness.
Access the Zoom link here. The gathering lasts only 45-50 minutes, from 12:15 pm until about 1 pm.
