COVID-19: Updates & Guidance
May 29, 2020

Dear School Leaders,

Another month has come to an end, and with it, another school year. This summer is going to look very different for most of us as we plan for multiple learning scenarios this fall. While planning is extremely important, I hope you also find the time for some self care and relaxation!

It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Virtual All School Leaders Meeting earlier this week. Thank you for taking the time to hear important financial updates. Rest assured that we will continue to communicate any updates with you as we receive them. The recorded meeting and slides can be found here if you were unable to attend.

Some important items added to our Coronavirus Updates web page this week include:
  • Legislative updates and timeline
  • Financial updates
  • Draft guidance from CDE on Planning for 2020-21

To access these resources and more, click the button at the top of the web page for a comprehensive list of updates organized by department and topic.

As mentioned earlier this week, we will continue Weekly Update Calls each Monday throughout June. These will take place at 1:00pm unless otherwise communicated, and call-in information will be posted on our Coronavirus Updates page.

Next week we will also be hosting a Fall Learning Plan webinar on June 5 to go over guidance and expectations for fall learning plans. We look forward to keeping in touch over the summer.

Updated Charter Modification Process
Is your school looking to make a change to your charter and/or charter contract? If so, please review our UPDATED charter modification process to determine whether and how to engage CSI. Some modifications simply require written notification to the Institute (immaterial changes), while others require advanced Institute approval and submission of a charter modification form (material modifications). Please review the UPDATED process, and contact Legal and Policy Associate Stephanie Aragon at with questions.
Census 2020
Once every decade, the federal government conducts a census of the entire population to count everyone in the United State and record basic information about them. For the first time in 2020, the U.S. Census Bureau will accept responses online, in addition to by phone or by mail. A majority of CSI schools have been identified as being located in areas that are "Tier 1", meaning they're serving a population in Colorado where low self response rates are expected. By educating, engaging, and encouraging parents, schools will help their communities benefit from a complete, accurate count.

The census helps determine, among other things:
  • how many seats your state gets in Congress
  • how more than $675 billion in federal funding is distributed to states
  • creates jobs, provides housing, and builds schools, roads, and hospitals
