"The Lord was with Joseph..."
Other Scripture referenced in message:
Genesis 37:18-22, 31-32
We cut off the retelling of Joseph’s life in a tense moment. This is very intentional to the point of this lesson. We want to try to create real thoughts and real conversation over real pain. We have the liberty and privilege of being able to turn the pages and fast-forward to the later moments of Joseph’s life. Really we get to see the “Bigger Picture.” He did not have that privilege. However, the way he responds makes it seem as if He did! What caused or allowed Him to respond in such a positive way? We are told and we will talk about it all throughout this series. The phrase, “The Lord was with Joseph” is on repeat.
Could it be that simple? I mean, we don’t get to see the future of our lives. However if we actually realize this same simple truth, “The Lord is with us” it changes everything. We can take a step back from life’s painful moments and know “The Lord is with us.” He is bigger than our painful moments! Be reminded and encouraged that our Lord sees us and is with us! No matter the hurt, no matter the situation our God will make it good. Truth is we may not get to see it this side of heaven, but heaven is our home and our future. He will make all things new and it will be good!
CONSIDER ASKING FOR CONVERSATION:
-What did you hear tonight?
-What do you think about when you think about God?
(This may have many branches. What we want to encourage is helping students NOT to think of God as “far away” or “the man up stairs.” Our God is present and near. Better is when we all remember that He is IN us. This is true for those who have surrendered their lives to Him.)
-How has your view of God changed over the past 5 years?
(Okay… truth bomb: A growing faith with bring about a growing view of God. Seeing He is more capable, more powerful, more faithful… All these will point to the importance we are stressing in this series. God is with us in the best and worst of times of our lives…. And HE sees ahead of us. Learning to trust Him is so so important!)
If one of your friends are going through a hard time / situation what could you say to them to remind them?
(I have spent many hours thinking about this as I walk into hospital rooms, funeral homes, and living rooms of families where life is at its worst. The only thing that is worth stating is reminding people they are not alone. If that is just the presence of friends that is great, but when they realize the presence of God that is a game changer! He can do what people cannot do.)
-Read Genesis 39:2a How does knowing our LORD is with you actually help when life is at its worst and at its best?
(If you were able to watch the message tonight the picture illustration is very helpful for me personally. I know God’s view of my problems is different. I can rest and be reminded that He sees and can navigate me. My pain can be worse if I choose to miss this perspective. Yet, I know I am His and He will lead me to what is best for me and for His glory! Like Joseph I want to suffer well! I think this is the goal and a testimony of how God changes us!)
We create a playlist for each series on Spotify that has songs that go along with our messages!
Our staff has also compiled a playlist of our favorite worship songs for you!
We are starting a new Bible plan on Youversion tonight that relates to this series. Click this link to join our group and read with us!
As a family… use this time of “distancing” to connect. Thank the people in your lives who are people who will love you well. Call out in you the areas that you need correcting! Pray for them and pray to be able to be that kind of person for someone else… pointing others toward Jesus!
THANK YOU FOR TRUSTING US WITH YOUR STUDENTS. WE PRAY THIS NIGHT AND THIS RESOURCE PROVIDES GREAT CONVERSATION THAT POINTS YOU ALL TOWARD CHRIST!
