Leadership fundraiser at Beard’s nets $6,000 for Child Care Initiative
The Leadership Little Traverse class of 2024 fundraiser at Beards Brewery on April 23rd was a success. There were over 70 people in attendance, and they raised over $6,000 for North Central Michigan College's Child Care Initiative.
With the support of local businesses and individuals, LLT held a silent auction with several prizes: two 45-yard line tickets to a University of Michigan football game; a luxurious 5-night stay in Florida; custom pottery pieces from Sturgeon River Pottery; various gift cards to local restaurants and shops; skydiving and charter fishing trips, door prizes, and much more (see participating vendors list in the attached press release). Attendees were also treated to music from Dane Tollas of Two Track Mind throughout the night.
Funds raised from the event will support the core work of the Child Care Initiative: stabilizing the local childcare workforce, making childcare affordable, developing a new, true cost childcare facility, and connecting parents, employers, and providers. 5 amazing facts about motherhood
From Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan: No matter what day of the year it is, mothers are pretty amazing. Whether little ones arrive in their arms via childbirth, adoption, surrogacy or foster care, the ability to nurture and care for a child is a life-giving accomplishment. It’s a title that should be celebrated every day, not just on a flowers-and-candy holiday each May.
As long as we’re nearing that mark, it’s a good reminder to make sure to reach out to the maternal figures in your life with some extra-special love. This could be your actual mom, an aunt or grandmother, a big sister, or just a person who was really there for you when you needed her. We’ve pulled together some facts that show just how fantastic moms can be. Full story.

Harbor Springs High School Youth in Government program seeks financial support
The chamber is including the above flier at the request of Harbor Springs High School social studies students. This is a state-wide program that encourages students to take part in the political process, and they are hoping to get some financial support from the community.
Social studies teacher Josh McDonald is the Lead Advisor for the school’s Michigan Youth in Government program, which he expects to have at least 30 participating Harbor Springs students. “We have two conferences that we attend. We have a one-day Fall Conference in Traverse City and a four-day Early Spring Conference in February. This takes place in Lansing. To make a long story short, students work throughout the year writing bills and proposals that they will then try to pass at the Early Conference in Lansing. Students get to actually use the Capitol Building and get to be mock Representatives and Senators. Students can also participate in mock trial competitions. We usually have at least one team that prepares for that. The reason I am contacting you is because over the last three years, the state legislature allocated money for a grant that schools were able to apply for. We were awarded that grant over the last three years. Now, it doesn't look like that grant is coming back. Without that grant, we are looking at the total cost per student to be around $650. If parents have to pay that amount, I am certain that we will see a pretty big drop off in student participation in this great program.”

July 10th Art Show welcomes Birchwood Farms Golf & Country Club as Premier Sponsor
The organizers of the July 10th Art Show at Nub’s Nob Resort have announced that Birchwood Farms Golf & Country Club has come aboard as their Premier Sponsor. The Art Show is organized by the Harbor Springs Area Chamber and the Northern Michigan Women's Club.
“It’s a great match to have Birchwood Farms, one of the premier country clubs in the region, joining us to sponsor one of the premier art shows in Northern Michigan,” said Chamber Executive Director Bonnie Kulp.
The chamber and the Women’s Club teamed up to restart the Art Show in 2023, after a three-year pandemic hiatus. Last year’s show was a major success, attracting 84 artists and hundreds of art lovers. More than 100 artists are expected this year, and very few booths remain for the July 10th show. Interested artists are encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible. To apply please click the following links:
The Art show runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 10th. Admission is a suggested donation of $5. Proceeds from the Art Show benefit the Harbor Springs Chamber and the many charitable organizations supported by the Northern Michigan Women's Club. Anyone with questions may contact Bonnie at the chamber, 231-526-7999, or email director@harborspringschamber.com.
