Hello ACHE Friends!
We are busy planning a terrific conference for you that is taking place in Palm Springs, California on October 14-16. The theme is “Fostering Care and Collaboration Through a Culture of Wellness”. Here are some opportunities you won’t want to miss.
There are 3 pre-conference workshops happening on Sunday, October 13th. The topics are “Pillars of Wellness for Fostering Wholeness” with Dr. Catherine Daus, “Advancing Enrollment and Attainment through Credit for Prior Learning” with Dr. Matt Bergman and Tracy Robinson and “The Future of Assessment in Non-Credit Education” with Patrick Kelly and Karen Taylor. These are all hot topics in higher education and we are pleased to welcome these experts to the conference.
Our keynote speakers were carefully selected to bring you in depth conversations about wellness and leadership.
Dr. Niki Elliott is a spirited and inspiring teacher educator who finds great joy in helping educators establish a mind-body connection for improving outcomes for themselves and their students. Dr. Elliott will introduce us to mind-body tools that we can put into practice right away. I had the pleasure of meeting her at our conference last year and look forward to learning more from her this year.
Our second keynote speaker is Dr. Louise Kelly. Dr. Kelly is a renowned thought leader specializing in Management, Strategy and Leadership who has written over 100 articles and 7 books to widespread acclaim. She will provide us with leadership, strategy and developmental psychology tools aimed at supporting lifelong learning and meaningful connections. I can’t wait to meet her and put these tools into practice to become a more authentic leader myself.
Have a great start to the new academic year and be sure to take a break in the action by taking advantage of the opportunities offered during our 86th Annual International ACHE Conference. Registration is open!
I look forward to seeing you in Palm Springs!

History of Your ACHE Involvement
My history of involvement with ACHE began with the 2022 conference in New Orleans, where I quickly became a member of the conference committee for 2023. The 2023 conference in Charleston was a terrific experience, and I had the joy to serve as Day Chair and get to know so many of the ACHE group through the conference planning process. Additionally, I’ve had the opportunity to present at the ACHE South conference this past spring as well as engaging with the conference committee to plan the upcoming 2024 conference in Palm Springs.
What excites you about serving on the board?
Being a member of the ACHE board of directors is such a great opportunity to contribute to the rapidly transforming field of higher education. While continuing higher education has always been my passion, the role we at ACHE can play with continuing higher education has never been more important. Our areas of focus are the growth engine for higher education, and the home for all lifelong learners.

History of Your ACHE Involvement
I attended my first ACHE South meeting in the Spring of 2014 then presented at my first ACHE International conference in Fall of 2014 - IN LAS VEGAS! (Thanks Brian Van Horn) and that's all she wrote. Since 2014, I have served on numerous conference planning committees for both the South region and the International organization. I served as Chair of ACHE South in 2023, and have co-chaired the awards committee for the national conference for several years. This year I took on co-chairing Proposals as well and you can usually find me at registration.
What excites you about serving on the board?
I've always felt a strong connection to the people in ACHE. Yes, the mission of the organization is important to the work we do in continuing higher ed, but the members of ACHE have become my professional family. I look forward to serving our membership - but also to see us focus on the students we serve and improve ourselves to be better helpers to others.

History of Your ACHE Involvement
My journey with ACHE began around 2015 or 2016 when I attended a regional conference in Charleston, SC. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the warmth and inclusivity of the members. This welcoming environment not only advanced my career but also allowed me to form many lasting friendships. Over the years, I’ve continued to engage with ACHE, leveraging the connections and knowledge gained to further my work in credit for prior learning and student persistence. The collaborative spirit of ACHE has been instrumental in shaping my professional path.
What excites you about serving on the board?
I am genuinely excited about serving on the board because it offers me an opportunity to give back to the organization that has been so impactful in my career and personal growth. The support and investment I have received from ACHE members have been invaluable, and I am eager to contribute to our community in a meaningful way. I look forward to working with fellow board members to advance our mission of serving adult and continuing learners and continue fostering the inclusive and supportive environment that has defined my own experience with ACHE.

Clayton Mack
Associate Director of Distance Education
North Carolina Central University
History of your ACHE involvement
NC Central's ACHE membership lapsed but was re-established in 2019 by my supervisor, who encouraged me to attend the national conference. There, I connected with others facing similar challenges and found a mentor in Patti Spaniola. When COVID hit, ACHE shifted the 2020 conference online, where I joined the new members committee. My mentor, noticing my trivia skills, involved me in organizing quarterly Zoom events like “Feel the Love,” where I helped moderate trivia games. In 2022, I joined the national conference planning committee and took on the challenge of MCing the “Ignite” session. After successfully hosting in New Orleans, I continued my involvement in 2023, hosting Ignite again and serving as a session presider. I’m excited to remain on the planning committee for 2024 and look forward to advocating for ACHE as a board member.
What excites you about serving on the board?
Board membership allows me to contribute to impactful strategies that better the continuing higher education industry. The best ideas come from diverse perspectives, and lead to enhanced collaboration. Those perspectives will broaden my understanding of the challenges and opportunities in this industry. The collaborations will increase our collective output and ability to solve problems, and be catalysts for change.
