Construction to Replace Beach Street Storm Drain is Underway
The vital construction of the Beach Street Storm Drain near the intersection of Beach Street and Bluff Road is underway. This repair is crucial to the homes in the surrounding areas as the old storm drain was several decades old and had the potential for serious infrastructure damage if left unattended.

Due to the severity of the emergency repair, Los Angeles County issued a temporary permit for contractor Mike Bubalo Construction Company to break ground and begin construction. The temporary emergency repairs were completed by January 3. Soon after, City Council authorized City Manager René Bobadilla to finalize an agreement with Mike Bubalo Construction Co. for the replacement of the decades-old storm drain for an amount not to exceed $390,000. The new, concrete storm drain is twice as big as the old one and will provide reliable service for years to come.

While the repairs address the structure of the drain, the City and Los Angeles County Department of Public Works plan to find a better solution for where the water is discharged to avoid future infrastructure damage in the area.

Due to the current construction on Bluff Road, there is a detour in place. Please plan accordingly and be mindful of Public Works on the road. The work is anticipated to be completed in three to four weeks. Stay up to date on this project by following @CityofMontebello on Facebook or Instagram.
