To support your work with youth, we offer the following resources:

California Center of Excellence for Trauma Informed Care

The California Center of Excellence is dedicated to advancing trauma-informed care practices throughout the state. They provide resources, training, and technical assistance to various organizations and agencies, helping them integrate trauma-informed approaches into their services. The initiatives are geared toward creating a statewide culture of awareness and sensitivity to trauma.

Safe Spaces

The Office of the California Surgeon General has launched a new trauma-informed training designed to help educators, school personnel and childcare providers respond to trauma and stress in children. Safe Spaces: Foundations of Trauma-Informed Practice for Educational and Care Settings was developed in collaboration with experts in education, youth mental health and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) research. The training is free, accessible online and available in English and Spanish.

Trauma-Informed Organizational Assessment Tools

Trauma-Informed Organizational Toolkit for homeless services Created for those who work with families experiencing homelessness, this toolkit provides organizations and other professionals with guidance for becoming trauma-informed and addressing the needs of those who have experienced traumatic stress and events. It identifies steps for completing a self-assessment to recognize successes and challenges, explains the value of a trauma-informed approach, and identifies next steps.

Trauma-Informed Care Organizational Assessment This tool helps organizations evaluate their level of trauma-informed care implementation and provides guidance for improvement.

Child and Adolescent Needs Strengths (CANS) A comprehensive assessment tool used to identify the needs and strengths of children and youth involved in behavioral health services.

Adverse Childhood Experiences The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) questionnaire is a standardized tool used to assess an individual's exposure to traumatic events during childhood. This technical assistance tool offers various approaches and considerations for screening adults and children for ACEs and trauma.

Trauma-Informed Interventions and Techniques

Trauma-Focuses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) A structured treatment approach for children and adolescents who have experienced trauma, combining cognitive-behavioral techniques with trauma-specific interventions.
