We had a big winner in our April CA$H COW contest! Congrats to Heidi Kimble of Cedar Falls, who found a $100 jug.
To put it in perspective, we produced about 27,000 gallons of milk in April and she found one of four jugs labeled with $100! Linda Crisman of Waterloo found a $5 jug, and a coffee shop in Waterloo also found two $5 jugs last month. In May we will put out five $100 jugs. Best chance to find one is right away at the beginning of the month! But make sure to keep looking throughout the month as we mark ten $5 jugs every week!

Our stores will be open on Memorial Day, and we also begin extended hours for summer! Both our Waterloo and Cedar Falls stores will be open until 10 p.m. beginning Friday, May 26, through Labor Day.

It's a month of gatherings!
|
With Mother's Day, graduations and Memorial Day coming in May, Hansen's Dairy has your special occasion needs!
Hansen's Dairy store in Waterloo will have
free sundaes
for moms (with a children's purchase) on Mother's Day, May 14. Hansen's Dairy store in
Cedar Falls will have buy one, get one free "cow-size" ice cream cones that day for moms as well.
If you're looking for a larger treat to take home, Hansen's Dairy has the ice cream cakes to make your mom feel special! We have pre-decorated cakes on hand for easy pick-up, or you can special order her favorite flavors. Our cakes are homemade with our delicious ice cream.
Kick off summer on Memorial Day (May 29) with a grillout! We have lots of meat choices at our stores for your grilling needs. Hansen's Dairy extra lean ground beef is raised under the same guidelines as our milking cows. We also carry an assortment of other local beef, pork, bison and chicken.
We are a great source of delicious products for your graduation parties! Are you planning an i
ce cream bar? We sell our many flavors of ice cream in half-gallons and in 3-gallon tubs. Planning on a popcorn machine for your party? We can special order larger bags of Tiny But Mighty heirloom popcorn. There are many other food options we can assist with as well. Don't forget the cheese!
We do still have some openings for rental of our Tour Center. If you are worried about weather and want an indoor option with outdoor space as well, this might be the perfect place.

The May Customer of the Month is
Elizabeth George of Cedar Falls.
Elizabeth became hooked on Hansen's milk after a friend let her try it. "It
is so smooth and creamy," she said. "My family and I love it."

The May Cows of the Month are the Hansen farm trifecta.
Martha, Jolene
and
Shakira
are a trio of 5-year-old cows who are currently the highest producers on the farm. They are each making 145 pounds of milk a day, which is almost 17 gallons each!
These cows are a joy to have on the farm and make giving a lot of milk look so easy. Sometimes they come in the milking parlor at the same time -- almost like they're competing against each other. :)

Cooking with Hansen's
|
Try this easy turkey dish for an all-in-one dinner solution. This recipe works well for leftover turkey, or you can substitute chicken. Starred ingredients are available at Hansen's Dairy stores -- make sure to use our May coupon to save an extra 10% on the Mild Cheddar shredded cheese!
Yield: 6 servings
Time: 1 hour 25 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- Non-stick cooking spray
- 12 ounces whole wheat penne pasta
- 2 tablespoons Hansen's butter*
- ¼ cup flour
- 3 cups Hansen's milk*
- 1 cup chicken broth
- ½ cup dry white wine (or additional chicken broth)
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- 2 cups sliced white button mushrooms
- ⅓ cup grated Parmesan cheese*
- 2 cups diced cooked turkey breast
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1 cup shredded Mild Cheddar cheese (see coupon above)*
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350° F. Spray a shallow two to three-quart baking dish with cooking spray; set aside. Cook pasta according to package directions. In large saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and stir in flour. Stirring constantly, cook about 2 minutes. Whisk in milk, chicken broth, wine and pepper; bring mixture to a boil. Stir in mushrooms, reduce heat and cook about 10 minutes, stirring frequently, or until mixture thickens and mushrooms are softened.
Stir Parmesan cheese, pasta, turkey and peas into milk mixture; spoon into prepared baking dish. Top with Mild Cheddar cheese and cover loosely with foil. Bake about 45 minutes or until bubbling at edges and heated through.
