The wines of Tenuta Sette Ponti have become regarded as one of the benchmarks of Tuscany, producing two of the most consistent and renowned "Super Tuscan" wines annually: Oreno and Crognolo. Those who know me and/or who have shopped with us over the years will well know as much as we respect both of these kingly wines, we really love the Crognolo. This past week I sat down with the supplier and were able to procure an amazing price on the lauded 2018 vintage and we are thrilled to be able to offer this today.
Land of the 7 Bridges
Tenuta Sette Ponti lies on historic land in the heart of the Chianti zone at the end of the Via del Monte, known locally as the Via dei Sette Ponti, in a beautiful hidden valley. Named for the 7 medieval bridges crossing the Arno River on the road from Arezzo to Florence—one of which, the Ponte Buriano, is perceptible in the right far background of Leonardo DaVinci’s Mona Lisa—the estate has a storied history. But it has been the dedication of entrepreneur Antonio Moretti that has transformed the 750-acre estate into a multifaceted farm property that is today one of Tuscany’s most innovative, quality-driven producers of world-class Super Tuscans.
Oreno may be Tenuta Sette Ponti's current flagship, but the first wine they released was Crognolo in 1998. Named after a wild bush, Cornus, which grows on the estate, this wine is made largely from Sangiovese grown on the mineral-rich galestro soil of their hillside vineyards.
This wine has long been a go-to find for both our guests and me for the high quality it delivers, but never have we been able to offer it for such a low price as today,
