I have birds on my brain

Friends,

The resident Momma Robin leaves the nest several times a day. She is sitting on four eggs -- her little family-to-be. Since she has come to trust me, I know I can set my cellphone camera for 2x magnification and put the timer on 5 seconds.

I weave my arm through the rosebush's thorny branches to get photos of the eggs. In previous years, there is mud packed along the edges and at the bottom. This year's nest is carefully woven with no signs of mud caulking.

That diary sketch that you see above is a robin from mid May last year. I photographed her looking over her shoulder, maybe seeing if her mate was nearby. The sketch tries to capture the patience of these birds as they prepare nests for another summer.

You can see that I have birds on my brain this time of year!
