For 50 years, the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) has been educating and engaging the public, communities, and healthcare professionals about infectious diseases across the lifespan. In celebration of our 50th anniversary in 2023, we will be recognizing our collective achievements and building momentum for the future as we work together in pursuit of our shared vision of healthier lives for all.
In the US, communities of color are disproportionately impacted by influenza (flu). To address these long-standing disparities, NFID has been working in collaboration with Black-led and Black-serving organizations to develop the #ShowUp and #FightFlu campaign to help raise awareness among US Black adults about the importance of annual flu vaccination. Please help spread the word by sharing and downloading the resources–all free and available for partners to co-brand.
As the current respiratory season winds down, NFID continues to work with partners and stakeholders in raising awareness about disease prevention and laying the groundwork for the upcoming 2023-2024 season:
-
NFID Immediate Past-President Patricia N. Whitley-Williams, MD, recently participated in a Facebook Live with BlackDoctor.org to address questions and myths about flu vaccination;
-
NFID President Patricia (Patsy) A. Stinchfield, RN, MS, CPNP, answered parents' questions about COVID-19 vaccines during an Instagram Live with Unbiased Science and the COVID-19 Vaccine Education and Equity Project; and
-
NFID submitted comments to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) last month regarding vaccines to prevent flu, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), COVID-19, and pneumococcal disease, and hosted a webinar highlighting updates from the ACIP meeting.
Collaboration is a core value of NFID and partnerships help sustain our important work. If your organization is not already an NFID partner, join the growing list of those who share the NFID vision of healthier lives for all through the effective prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. Visit www.nfid.org/partners to join, and on behalf of NFID, thank you for your support.
